Ski bags for local skiing?

Hi all, today marks my first full season skiing. I picked up skis and boots for myself and my girlfriend as we both have been going a lot this season and plan to continue. I definitely need to get boot bags as carrying everything from the car to the lodge was a bit rough yesterday. As I'm looking around for what is out there I've also seen ski bags that look convenient, but I don't think I've seen too many people actually using them for local skiing and I'm wondering why people don't seem to sue them other than when traveling? Carrying "local" isn't overly difficult but with long hikes it would seem easier to just have an over the shoulder bag.

People don’t use bags for local skiing becuase it’s just easier not to. Get your snowpants and whatever socks you want to wear on before you leave for the mountain, then when you get there drop your skis off at the front. Park, then get your boots/other gear on. Then all you have to do walk to the entrance, get your skis, and send er.

I definitely would not want to walk my resorts parking lot with boots on, and I get a little nervous about leaving my skis since they are new but I see your point.

Walking with ski boots on does suck (especially through icy/snowy parking lots) but I guess I got used to it. I’ve never really been afraid of people stealing my skis but it can be an issue so I see where you’re coming from. I’d suggest getting a bootbag that has straps for attaching skis, it would probably be best if it was backpack style. You cloud probably fit hats/gloves/goggles in it too, plus you could attach your helmet to an outside strap.

not so much the ice but the fact it is pothole city, hasn't been repaved in years so it's basically a mogul parking lot. If you got any recommendations for Bags or any other convenience gear I'm all ears, and thanks.

i have a salomon back pack that easily fits my boots, knee brace, mittens, goggles and a hood i wear under my helmet. when i carry my stuff from the car to the lodge i put the pack on my back, skis go over one shoulder and then poles and helmet on the other hand. the easiest way for me at least, give it a try! there are lots of great boot bags available and they're decently priced!

Salomon is my current brand too. I got the xdr 78's for my first set of ski's and the xpro 100 boots, both amazing, and got a great deal. got my girlfriend the xpro 70's but got her head skis as she was a little apprehensive about going up to a longer size. Mind if I ask what the knee brace is for and how it works? I have to get my right knee checked out but it always feels slightly twinged when skiing, or doing anything really. It's not getting worst so I don't think it is an injury, but will make sure. I was thinking of checking into if there were knee braces that would offer extra protection.

i have problems with my collateral ligaments, not torn but not okay at the same time. brace gives a little more stability while skiing. it also gives a little extra warmth. i don't wear it to the gym or biking, just skiing.

If you can't walk from your car to the lodge in your ski boots you either got the wrong boots or you're just not cut out for this

boot bags that can fit all your gear are handy af, in aus i carry it across the carpark, put my gear on then stash it somewhere out of the way and only walk 10 metres and I'm on snow. rn I have a douchebag but they're pretty overpriced for what you get lmao

Oh hey great feedback, but I think I'll decide if I am cut out for this :)

I hope your comment made you feel great about yourself.

Whoah, chill dude.

I’m pointing out that it shouldn’t be difficult to walk across a parking lot in your ski boots. Since most ppl everywhere are wearing the wrong boots for them, and you are new at this, you might want to examine your boot situation if they are hard to walk in.

I have Salomon Xpro 100's that are custom molded and am quite comfortable in them, but like I said the parking lot is quite the distance from the main lodge and it is a mess as it's not well taken care of.

Something seems off here. Did a knowledgeable bootfitter recommend those boots?

Are we having two different conversations here? There is nothing wrong with my boots, I love my boots.

OP: I don't walk in my ski boots in the lot. It wears out the soles, sometimes it's several hundred yards and usually I'm carrying at least two sets of skis, poles, helmets, whatever because I have kids.

They make backpack style boot bags that hold boots, helmet, with extra pockets for gloves, water bottles, snacks, goggles.

Yeah. You're looking for a boot backpack. Here's a link to the one I use:

https://www.dakine.com/en-us/bags/travel-bags/snowboard-gear-bags/boot-pack-50l/

But I'm trying to help a newbie out with a bigger picture issue that I'm observing: it's weird to not be able to navigate a rough parking lot in your boots. People walk for blocks, even literally climb mountains in their boots, so if you can't cross a parking lot in yours I'm just checking to see if there's a problem here you might not be aware of.

Suck it up buttercup.

If you were my kid I’d take your damn keys and make you take the bus for an attitude adjustment.

I know few people who walk distances without protective gear on their boots, but the cool kids are still focused on me not wanting to walk through a mine field lol. Anyway I ordered a couple everything bag last night. Should be good for all my gear.

They make rocker sole protectors that some of the old guys use. Looks like it makes it easier to walk. I haven’t tried tho

Get dressed and ready in the lot

This is what we do. Snow pant on at home and boots on in the car in the lot

I see a lot of these too. Backpack on , skis on shoulders . No ski bag.
