Ski ability plus gear

I feel like with some skis you need to have a certain level of experience to use them. For example, I've heard people dont like you if you vishnus when you can only jib boxes. Is this a thing or no? Like as a social thing. Obviously you can physically use vishnus on boxes.

disclaimer - I dont care what skis people have, just wondering if others care

With wider skis yea but not really with park skis

Ski ability for sure affects what sort of skis and length you will be able to handle or prefer, but saying someone shouldn't have a ski because they don't have the skill set deemed socially required for that style or brand of ski is fucking retarded. Obviously some people will think this way, but they're also probably still stuck in the mindset of a high school kid.

I personally dont believe that people should have gear based off of their ability in that way, I was just wondering if other people thought that way. I've seen some members of NS saying stuff like that.

Yess 100% not only that, the ski you choose will also reflect your lifestyle habits. If you ride Vs im going to roll up and ask if you want to go for a toke in the woods and then meet up for some skating later at the bowl. If youre on that soul 7, we'll most likely hit up apres at the hill and get that 7 course wine tasting sampler bob has been raving about. If youre on volkls, were hitting up the tramp centre right after a day of sessioning just the xl booter followed by an intense round of shredsauce and instagram stories

Anyone who hates on a beginner with fresh new gear is just jelly.

Now, if someone's frontin' like they're better than you because of gear that shit's wack, regardless of skill level. It's just skiin.

Like it or not the truth is yes, people do think that way. There's a super old skate term, "poser," that way back in the day was applied to anyone who couldn't skate but that had dope gear. Look at this poser. In some circumstances it could lead to the guy getting punked or at least brutally snaked. Caused people to quit skating. Its so stupid.

I deem myself unworthy of a full matching virtika outfit until i can cork 7 blunt. And unworthy of faction candide 4s until i can cork 3 off natural features

I mean.. I wouldn't go out buying Vs if you're not planning on hitting rails in the immediate future. Personally I dont wanna get Vs until I can ride away from a triple kink unscathed, but that's just me. If it makes you happy, use whatever skis you want.

I dont judge people, but I do get jealous when others have a nice setup.

It's also extremely satisfying to blow past people riding expensive directionals on my old ass beater park skis

Just let skiing stay fun. ya its hilarious to see gapers wiping out on boxes on whatever skis their parents bought for them, but maybe they'll get hooked and be out next season sessioning the same feature for hours just to learn to slide rails, and end up here asking for tips on how to k-fed in a year. just since they started out with skis that were "too good" for them, they still have a right to enjoy skiing as much as anyone else
