i want to learn how to board during the summer so im not sure which one to go for. skate or long board? im not sure if id do any tricks just because i love skiing and wouldnt want to do something stupid to mess up my upcoming season. id just coast and go places and shit. smooth ride is a pretty big factor for me too. thx yall xo

it depends on what you wanna do if you wanna go fast and cruse get a longboard if you wanna do fliptricks ledges stair sets etc....get a skateboard or just both you can find skateboards cheep on ccs.com like just blank decks

long boarding fun as hell, its a lot easier.

keep in mind it depends where you live, if your living in a place flat as a pancake w/ only skate parks you may want to consider skateboarding

skateboard if your wanting to learn tricks and spend the time doing so.

longboarding if you want to cruise and slide and carve etc.keep in mind for a good longboard you'll probably end up spending over $100 more then on a good skateboard

thanks everyone. im going to go with a long board so can anyone recommend any good brands for longboards? i looked at the ccs.com website and theres so many styles so im kinda confused. i have a couple of skate shops in town but id like to know some decent brands before the salesperson trys to sell me the most expensive one. (i dont look skater at all) i dont think im gonna go for a bustin sojourn since i dont plan on doing any tricks with it. thanks so much your help!

for decks check, bustin, loaded, and landyachts. they should have a short cruiser like in a 31" to 36" length

Sector 9 is pretty legit for pre built beginner boards. And to the guy that said get a skate if you're good: How can you get good without a skate? You have to start somewhere.

Look at originalskateboards.com they make sick longboards with prob the nicest trucks out there. I got the pintail 40 And I love it. I'd recommend an apex tho cuz freestyle stuff on a longboard is fun as hell. But the derringer is sick too if you lOoking for a mini. But trucks are nice the only downside is you have to clean and grease them

Every now and then an these plastic things can break in em that are4$ to

Fix also they use springs so those wear out after 3 years. But If you don't mind the high maintenance trucks you will get amazing trucks

+k for everyone that answered and will answer. i was looking at some brands and i really like arbor and loaded. whats the difference between a mini and an ordinary longboard?

Haha i used to skate and longboard and i got so annoyed by skaters who hated on longboarding but now i agree. Half the time i see a kid with a longboard he is walking holding it. If im lucky i get the pleasure of seeing a kid attempt to ride on flatland and struggle.

Get a longboard. Make sure its rasta somehow. Never even look at a hill just make sure you look cool.

I started longboarding to get to class, but it soon became way more than that. Now it's wait till 12 at night to go bomb hills with no cars on them with other kids in my dorm. But I've been skateboarding since like third grade or something. I still lol at the longboarders I know cause they can't even ollie. They're both fun though. I still like skateboarding better.
And neither is safe from injury. It's either speed or stairs, rails and bowls.

thats sorta my purpose. of course id go places with it and go down hills with some friends. i think i wouldnt go to the skate park because it would be too tempting to try new tricks on features. going to uni next year so ill definitely use it to go to class as well. oh and i saw this video by original skateboards on pintails and its exactly what i want to do. the video is called longboard pintails. cant link it cus i found the video on my phone.

I dunno, I much prefer cruising on a skateboard. Partly because I constantly want to pop up and down curbs, pop down little stairsets on my journeys and I also find it way easier to slalom through pedestrians and traffic. Skateboards are (obviously) shorter and quicker which suits me better.

i dont live in a big city so theres not a lot of ppl. doubt ill be on the sidewalk, mostly on back roads, parking lots, hills, etc. thanks tho.

just get a like a atm for 30 bucks and get some indy high trucks get bones reds bearings and then just get some soft big wheels. like 70 mm soft wheels, it feels like your longboarding.... but you can still do tricks. plus its not a bad filming board since the wheels abosorb so much, and another option could be two get two sets of wheels but that could be a hassle to take on and off

well thats basicly all i want to do and some tricks on the board. if you scroll up to the pintail vid, thats exactly what i want to do.
