he retired from his competitive career today after his run at the grand prix and he said it "he didnt want it to end this way"

the legend is retiring wtffffffff

Actually bummed for him. Not my favorite skier or anything but he worked so hard to come back only to have it end like this right before the olympics.

Bums me out. Rather have him retire in style than in "oh shit I'm old news". Maybe his fault for not retiring before he faded out.

Like Brett Farve.

I heard he skied on a torn acl, got a 74, and is not going to Sochi, so he's retiring (indefinitely??). But probably not indefinitely.

He had some pretty tall expectations to meet at the grand prix.

At least his career wasn't short lived.

Call me a pussy but I was legit crying when I heard the news. Simon was an OG he inspire me, he inspired others, he wasn't perfect but he is a legend. For an athlete this is the worst thing in the world, he has dedicated his life to this sport, and it ended like this.

Like fo real!

Well the US is down by two guaranteed (pretty much)nmedals now between Dumont and Vonn.

Sucks though, I can't imagine what he's feeling. I mean I cried when I tore my ACL because my season was over, I wouldn't want to be in the position of being a hopeful medalist in the Olympics and having that disappear.

And I'm sure be "retiring" that means from comps. I bet he will put out some kick ass edits.

Honestly can't tell if this is a shot a Simon or not, but if it is, you're a buffoon.

That said, feel awful for Simon. There are very few things worse for a professional athlete than having your retirement forced on you by injury and losing the chance to decide how and when you want to leave the sport you love

Pretty sad. Simon has been skiing for so long, had such a good career, and has dominated pipe for years. Now the Olympics come around and he is hooped.

thats pretty sad. I know he can be a bitch and all but he's a super driven skier and he seems really upset about it.

does anyone have the full story? all Im getting from this thread is that he skied on a torn acl and got a mediocre score so he's retiring

He's old and no longer able to keep up, he has said the Olympics would be his final comp for a while now. He's moving on from pipe skiing, really excited to see what he gets up to once he heals up

He had a post early on instagram earlier about how he isn't retiring but "switching gears." He said he was going to focus on making the dumont cup course better than ever and putting out some banger edits. That being said I am incredibly sad he won't get a spot in the olympics considering that he is one of the people that pushed the hardest for pipe skiing to become an olympic sport, but I am also excited for his future

I'd love to see him take the route of people like T-Hall, Candide, and CR and take his park skills to the big lines. That's become what I crave in edits and movies these last few years.

I'm really saddened by this. He is definitely one of the biggest innovators in our sport, and it's sad to see injury stop him from getting to participate on the biggest stage. I think it's the end of something big, and it's sad to see that happen. Hopefully, he can go on to do great things in the new direction he's going.
