Anybody go there often? I would like to go there this upcoming winter but I don't want to take a guided tour because I don't know my way around.

Uh, it's guided only skiing from January 14 to March 28. Unguided skiing before and after those dates. Guided skiing from January to March you're paying $119-$129/day. Unguided, you're paying $49/day in early/late season or $99/day with a guide.

i was an intern there for a winter. hit me up if you have any questions. Plus even during unguided, a bunch of terrain they still want you to have a guide.

my friend in steamboat went this winter. he said it was really dope. alot of hard good terrain. I would say go with a guide the first time, or at least someone that knows the area. There are alot of places that run out into 300 foot cliff from what i heard

Pay for the guide, Silverton is no joke.
Also, I hope you're in shape for hiking for 40+ minutes uphill, at 12,000 foot elevations, with a load on your back. And after all that, how easily can you handle a sketchy entrance with a tired body and legs?
It's beautiful, the location can't be beat, but be prepared.
