Should NS have a notification alert?

I was thinking about if NS had a notification alert similar to Facebook's. It would alert you when someone quotes you in a thread, or PM's you, or commented on a video of yours... etc. Does anyone think this would work?
 
definably a repost but to some extent it would work. if there was just to much random notification it would suck
 
We'd have to construct it extremely carefully. You're dead on to say that if it just blasted you with everything it would be totally overwhelming.

It would have to be hugely customizable and you would need the ability to tune how much / where / when / what it sends you.

 
this exactly.

especially because i know lots of people are against it, along with the large amount of people for it. so if someone doesnt want it they dont have to enable it
 
my thoughts exactly, maybe if you could subscribe to threads, as well as if your quoted in a thread, video up rated/down rated, video/picture comments etc.
 
PLEASE! My Threads simply become too cluttered when you post a lot. I often find myself saying "PM me for more info or if you have questions" because i simply wouldn't remember to check back in that thread. I really think that a notification system would generate not only better responses, but more thorough responses with follow ups. I don't know what the coders are currently working on, but this should be towards the top of their priority list.
 
Guys, use this thread to flesh out your dream list of features for this system. We'll take that into account when building the notifications.

 
I'd prefer if it was keep within NS. No email notifications or anything like that.

Keep it as simple as possible.

I'd even like it more if there was little text involved, maybe next to thread listing just a small (+1, +2) etc for however many times you've been quoted since last check. That way if you've been quoted 10 times, you don't get 10 individual notifications. Instead it just says (+10)
 
the only thing that i would even consider is a notification when somebody messages me. but even then on mobile i check often enough that its not a big deal.

getting notifications when you're quoted, especially if you post a lot, would just be too much
 
NS should have a WUFF. I want to get a text, an email, a tweet, a tumblr message, a phone call, a fax and a letter via mail whenever someone qoutes me on NS.

*Notifications when your media/ thread reaches +/- 5, +/-10 and so on. I think it would be better not to do notifications everytime your media/thread is up or down rated as that would get irritating, and some people might -k people who down rated their video

If we got a tagging system going, then I feel like there would be more need for a notification system, ie. tagged in thread/post or tagged as the skier/credit in a video. However I don't think given the time it would take to engineer a tagging system that it's really necessary.
 
This is getting real close to social network status, along with the notification system. Although I think it would be handy, I kind of like the way it is now - how I have to manually check to see if someone quoted me or whatnot.
 
I think that's an excellent method. I come on NS enough to NOT need email notifications.

Thoughts on being able to flag/unflag a thread you want to watch but have not posted in?
 
Been thinking about this some more...

I would really like the ability to tag someone in a post to make sure they see it. There are times where I could dub, trip, quap post just to hit on the different points of view or comments left by people. If I could just reply to a post and type in a user's name and they get a notification, I think that'd be pretty cool. Very similar to Facebook in that regard.
 
I think it'd be cool to have the option of automatically sending a PM when someone quotes you in a thread you posted
