Should I be looking at colleges in UT mainly b/c of skiing?

I know it sounds bad, but thats one of the main reasons I'm looking into out of state colleges. I (meaning my parents) have around 40k for college. If I go local, I can attend college for veryyy cheap (scholarship, so its around 3k a year, which is a joke). The rest of the college $ is mine, so it comes down to;

1. Attending an out of state for 4 years->taking loans and spending my 40k, but having a greattt 4 years that include snowbird, alta, etc.

2. Going to college locally and then transferring, so I wont need any loans or have to worry about money too much, I just wont have a lot (or any) when I get out.

3. Attend local college for 4 years, have roughly 25k that I can spend on a used car (bmw, infiniti, blahblah) and visit UT during winter break for a couple weeks.

WHICH # would you choose; 1 , 2, or 3. thx and dont hate, just need some opinions (or #s)

this. i'm looking forward to college mainly because i can finally live somewhere where it snows more than maybe 10 times each year.

attend community college back home, finish generals (they are the same pretty much)

move to utah for last 2 years?

LOLOL LIEK 2 HOURS MIDDLE OF NH. I HAVE TO WORK AT THE SHITTIEST MTN EVER, AND IT NEVER FUCKING GETS SNOW, AND MAINE GETS A LOT MORE SNOW THAN CENTRAL NH

go to community college in utah for cheap, while you get a utah drivers lisence and what not to become a utah resident. shred pow.

after 2 years of that, go to the university of utah. pay in-state tuition.

in the end though.

DONT let NS's blind "yes's" or no's sway your opinion.

the reason, its stupid easy to spend other peoples money, but ill garner a guess and say 4-5 years from now you will be happy you are not (assuming you arnt) 80k in the hole for college.

Pick school based on what you want to study. College is hard enough without any distractions with something like skiing.

fuck college. who the fuck needs to be intelligent or successful?

just move straight out to utah, blow up like dynamite, make millions of dollars from being a pro skiier.

super easy.

would that be easier than just going to a comm. college there and getting instate tuition for the following years as well?

Community college is one way to go. I have a group of four friends who are moving out to Breck next year and rooming together while they work at the mountain and keep up with a few classes at CCC. I'm from the east and really want to go to school out west with good skiing. I'm thinking about UCO at Boulder, Westminster, Univ. UT, Lewis and Clark...they're mostly good schools with some of the greatest skiing in the country almost in the backyard. A lot of people say there arnt great schools near mountains but that's not entirely true. I'm looking for something that allows me to get a good education and continue skiing for as long as I can. As far as money goes, it's never cheap. Community college is the way to go if your prioritizing money and skiing comes first, and not all community colleges are bad. But you can pay for a private or state college thats near mountains. Also, best case scenario is you can find work at the resort and help pay through college and get a free pass. It's up to what your looking for and how much school and skiing mean to you.

fuck it dude, move to UT. only go to school in the summer and fall, then youll be able to ski end of Dec till May/June. your summers will suck, but you're a skier, they already do.

this is what i was thinking dude like go to jc 2 years establish residency then do yo thang at the university the first 2 years are all general ed anyway... buttttt choosing a school only on skiing is a bad decision in my opinion. academics and cost should come first

thats not a bad idea. but why UT over CO or something? itd be so good to have winters free, I'd much rather go to school over the summer and be able to ski all winter. For skiers, the winter should be our summer break.

well i would at least be part time the whole year in college.. im thinkin of goin to collegge here for 4 years , unless i get some sort of scholarship or financial aid that will sway my decision. Plus my dad said if i stay here and we save a lot of money from college, we will take a trip to somewhere out of the country during the winter, like Japan. really gotta see how much $ its all gonna be, like said b4, its not a good thing to come out of college 10-20k in debt and in need of a job

Utah is instate for me bitches! I am so pumped, I just need to do average on my act to get a full ride (except for housing) to Uof U. I am so stoked for college.

4 years go by fast. 40K debt doesn't go by fast. I just finished my first year and it seems like i just started. Think of all those ski trips that money could pay for :-0

i know alot of college graduates doing what i do (skiing) and working at the mountains. its pretty hard to pay off all of your new bills at a ski resort though, make good decisions.

go to a local college and save the money. instead of buying a car with the leftover $25,000, use that money to move out to utah to be a ski bum for a while. get a job at one of the resorts and ski for a few years. then when ever you are ready to get a real job you will have that degree.

you wont be able to ski as much as you want while your taking classes anyways. get the degree, then be the ski bum. its the way to go.

lol talking with some guy at work today he mentioned he is 50k in the hole for his first 2 years of college. at a college he has since been expelled from, and the credits he did earn are like a C average.

lolz but hey, he had 2 fun years im sure.

fuck for that kind of money go travel the entire world for 2 years. dont set on your ass drinking beer in Iowa. FAIL

You can get a good job at the mountain. I have my PSIA level I (gonna get II next year) which helps secure a ski instructor position...but working also gives you an income and a free seasons pass, schedule very few classes in the winter and your golden
