The problem is beginner terrain vs park terrain. Blackcomb lacks mellow pitches for ski outs and learning areas. So there is a battle between ski school and the parks.
Take whistler for example. They had multiple park runs off emerald chair until ski school complained there wasn't enough beginner runs. The way the upper management looks at it is that parks doesn't draw enough money vs the beginners clientele. Something like 90% of revenue in the industry comes from causal skiers (1-3 times a year). Those are the people that come up for family vacation, rent/buy ski equipment, day tickets, take ski lessons, buy lunches on the mnt., eat out in the village and stay in the hotels. All they ask for is a mellow groomed run. Then you have your standard park rat. They have they're own equipment, might buy the cheap pass or share a pass or hike up the slope, don't buy food from the cafe, pack as many people in a room on couches and floors. Park riders demand features the require thousands of hours of grooaming time, snow making and hand maintenance.
One idea has been floating around is making whis the beginner mountain and blackcomb the advanced. Have a very small featured park on whistler and expand blackcombs park. Moving it would mean loosing out on previous investments of dirt work and snowmaking systems. Id keep XL and choker but expand a jib line off easy out run for catskinner laps.
