Shop mounted bindings wrong

Old thread is dead and, well, old.

A little background: Got a pair of 2020 Faction Prodigy’s for Christmas from Evo. Supposedly came with bindings that weren’t mounted. Long story short they came mounted and at Factions center line. Went through a bunch of BS and basically returned them to get the 2021’s without bindings. Brought those to the shop and specifically told them to mount true center. Whelp they mounted them at the manufacturer center line again (6cm’s back from true center). I’ve been a park skier most of my life, always mounted true center. I also like to ski switch quite a lot. Since suffering a head injury I know I won’t be skiing park much anymore but still love to ski switch. I’m on the EC so powder isn’t going to be a massive factor. But I’m still annoyed, I’m not really a fan of the bindings this far back but since I really haven’t skied that way before I’m not sure if I should make a big deal with the shop about it. Plus with Covid I know these shops have been hit hard and don’t want to take more money out of their pocket. I think 2-3cm’s back from center would be more my style. I guess I’m just looking for some input on whether it’s worth pursuing before the skis get used or if I should try them out. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Bitch about it. Skis are expensive shops shouldn’t mess these things up. Especially if someone tells you where they want it. Mistakes happen but 2 in a row in just stupid

How does a shop fuck up a mounting twice.....?

They didn’t. The first ones I got from EVO that had a deal with bindings, but they advertised the bindings as not mounted in legit bold letters. When they came in they were mounted and about 6cm’s back from center at Factions mounting point. Went through a bunch of BS with their customer service and finally agreed to return and get the 2021’s unmounted. Brought to loval shop and specifically told them to mount true center. Guy told me okay. Picked them up today, got them home, clipped in a boot, and low and behold they were mounted at Factions center point again.

How do you read that story and get lost? It wasn't the same shop, learn to read ya jabroni

OP that blows, I'm sorry, but this is a classic issue, ski shops are not accustomed to mounting true (core) center. Even if you're sure they get the message to "mount at center," they're just as likely to think you mean at recommended, or sidecut center. Regardless where you want something mounted but especially at true center, you have to make it completely foolproof. When I get skis mounted I make a big mark and/or leave a taped sticky note that makes it extremely clear where I want my midsole line, no misunderstandings possible. Some ski shop dickhead makes a comment occasionally but Idgaf about his gaper opinion, I just want my mount idiot-proof

Regarding yours specifically now-- if you don't care about resale value and you don't plan to remount these skis much, you could just mount them again where you want, it sounds like it's easily far enough away from where they got mounted. If you were very clear about where you wanted them mounted as opposed to recommended, I think it's a decent compromise to ask them to do the remount for free.

Be respectful and calm regardless of course, but what I think you're within your rights to request from them depends on what message you communicated to them the first time. If you said "yep here they are mount em at center, peace" I'm sorry but I don't personally think you have much room to complain but maybe you can talk it over and try to work out a compromise with them

with all you knowledge of lawyerings im sure you would be able to sue them or just challenge them to a duel?

Why do ski manufactures not just set the recommended at true center? If it's a park ski then the recommended should be true center.

cause it's really not where all park skis should be mounted. if it's a symmetrical ski and/or you are literally skiing park pretty much exclusively, then great it might be the right call. otherwise you're sacrificing soft snow and carving performance (ideally your mid sole line isn't way up from the sidecut center) for a marginal advantage in switch skiing

shops are definitely set in their ways and a little overeager to mount at recommended sometimes but mounting at recommended should 1000% be what you go for unless you have a strong educated opinion why you don't want that. they don't just randomly choose a line, a lot of skis are really designed carefully around that recommended mount line

Went back to the shop and spoke to a lead technician. He was completely cool about the situation. I guess it was a new tech that originally mounted and even though I told him true center and he acknowledged he didn’t know what it meant I guess. They are going to remount obviously free of charge. I’m fine with that as I plan to keep these skis until their death.

well-handled by everyone, glad to hear it. agreed that if you plan to ski them as is for a long time, the remount won't be an issue at all but i def commend you for being chill about it

go get some toy lightsabers and nerf guns and challenge the shop to a duel for new skis. U win, any new ski that they have, U lose, I guess that stinks but maybe just stick with their crap mount lol
