What do you think guys? I've been considering shooting part of my movie in 8mm, I found an awesome deal on a camcorder and I think that some 8mm footy would be dope. Do you think its worth the extra money that it takes to transfer the tapes to minidv?

personally i like 8mm only because it's fucking cheap and available.

What sort of deal are you getting on a camera? Cuz i've got one for sale...and i can probably give you a better deal :-)

but yeah, the inherent grainieness that comes from 8mm can be used pretty effectively with different filters.

We'll there is one for sale on pro8mm.com (awesome site) for $350 (camera alone - kinoflex) and there is also a package deal thing for $599 that includes:

no sound becayse there is no mike. You have to do sound individually with a seperate device because 8mm is originally older technology before camcorders were equiped with sound (I think?).

yeah man, just use a minidisc player with a mic if you even need sound at all.

ive been shooting 8mm for about 2 years now, and dont start thinking it is cheep. once you have done puchasing film, transfering etc. it is almost as much as 16mm, and if you want a good camera, that you normally can`t find at a flea market or garage sale, it is pretty expensive as well. so, if you have money and want to do something different by an 8.

you should check out ebay - sometimes they have good cameras for dirt cheap prices. i been shootin shit for 2-3 years now. plan on paying 20$ for film/developing for 3 minutes. i heard the pro8mm overcharge a lot. as for sound, you can still get 8mmsound cameras, but kodak stoped making sound film due to environmental and health reasons. regular supa8 film cartridges still work in sound cameras though. You should get a canon camera if you can find one - i have come to find out that they have a lot nicer lenses that most others
