Shooting at US navy yard in Washington

I have a feeling once more information surfaces this will be something homegrown and not an international affair

inb4 "if this is happening at a naval yard why dont they just shoot back"

it doesnt work like that, military members dont carry their rifles around when they are stationed stateside, they're all kept in the armory besides those signed out to be used for training, drill or when they're on post/duty.

Feel free to correct me if thats not totally right, I know thats generally true with Marines at least

BBC is saying 4 dead? Not that I don't trust you guys but the BBC is pretty solid for info.

Sad news, but what I find almost stupid, is Obama calling it "cowardly".

Cowardly is the go to word for every shooting or attack in politics. I'm tired of presidents and politicians calling something cowardly. Do something new and real, not just recycling the same old script

From the news I've gathered, I wouldn't be surprised if it is related to jihadz especially where one of the shooters was described as a tall, black male. Somali or Mali militant?

I've been watching the live feed for awhile now at work, and talked to a friend of mine who has connections there and it seems that the original gunman, who is now dead, was black male, 50's, wearing navy attire was an officer who's work status had recently changed, aka disgruntled worker shooting.Reports are that he opened fire from a 4th floor mezzanine that looked over the atrium and shot at people in the cafeteria below.

A cop was shot in both legs, a woman in the head another woman in the shoulder and they're all in surgery and should survive. They're not releasing exactly how many are dead and most places are still in lockdown.

There is a possible other shooter (mixed reports from eye witnesses), but everyone is also in shock/hysteria. The police are still searching, but no more shots have been fired for a few hours. I'm really hoping that everyone is safe and my thoughts are with the families of those who lost loved ones.

And yeah it is sad how this kind of thing has become so commonplace that it is no longer a big deal. It is and it's a tragedy that the US has come to that.

inb4 someone mentions gun control... OH WAIT

one of my close friends is in the US just now with her bf visiting her mum and dad who just moved out there, and her dad works in the navy yard. he just happened to be on a business trip or something today, pretty fucking scary to think about, and how awful would it be if something did happen to him when she's on holiday to see him? i hate thinking about stuff like that

also what was the post that got deleted?

Just read 13 dead.. such a tragedy.. I'm so sick of these shootings on defenseless people in gun free zones. inb4 obama uses this as an excuse to take blame off himself for syria and benghazi, and the liberal media is back on gun control..

You are a complete retard. This was a gun free zone like most of these recent shootings. These gun free zones are the problem here, they do absolutely nothing to deter shooters. Only law abiding citizens don't bring guns into them, making for many easy defenseless targets for the sickos that do these things.

Yes, the problem is everyone doesn't have a gun, and they can't take it with them everywhere they go. I say we go back to the wild west.

you cant possibly be suggesting that allowing guns into gun free zones like schools or hospitals would make them safer. that might sound nice in theory but in practice theres no way.

im personally in favour of strict gun laws but this argument has been beaten to death on this site. probably the more relevant discussion would be about things like mental health and social alienation anyways but thats too much to ask of media + politicians

rip to those people and prayers to their families

you do realize that until gun free zones were invented guns were in fact allowed in schools and hospitals? And there weren't really any shootings. And if there were, it was not even close to being the amount there are today

No, but a bigger police presence in the "gun free zones" could help deter these shootings tremendously. Its no coincidence that the vast majority of these shooting occur in "gun free zones," its because these people are trying to go out strong and kill / injure as many people as they possibly can, so they choose to go for the defenseless people. These "gun free zones" enable people to get killed and something should be done about them, before we address the issue of "gun control" because its clearly the lack of protection in these areas that is the problem.

i hate to say it but i feel by the time obamas finished (thankfully) guns will be banned. people are just dumb now background checks seem so necessary now

Care to elaborate on that thought? Are you really comparing a time where there were no background checks no waiting period, to today where we have those in effect, and you're saying it's easier to get your hands on guns these days?

Is it easier to buy guns that are military-grade, high quality, extremely reliable weapons? Yes?I say fuck it lets go back to muskets.
