On or off?

I have tile all on the outside of my house and grass on the inside. So I wear my shoes inside and take them off when I leave the house.

I don't understand why people wear shoes inside, nobody in Alberta/ any place in canada that I've been does. I hate having shoes on inside, plus why would I want to get mud on my floor?

You can wear shoes in our house, just take them off if you've stepped in mud or shit or anything. For the most part my shoes are pretty clean so it doesn't really matter. If they aren't I take them off, pretty easy.

This. I'm pretty sure, but correct me if I'm wrong, that it's a northern thing. It makes sense though, we always take boots off in the winter so I guess a lot of people got in the habit of always taking them off. Down south there isn't snow and slush as well as not as much mud in the summer. No shoes in my house, that's a no no. White carpets, yo.

I never wear shoes inside the house. What's the point? It feels awesome taking off your shoes and lay on the couch after a long day..

My house? usually on down to my room where I take them off.

Other people's houses? off, definitely. EXCEPT when i have shoes without socks on (boat shoes, sandals, etc). Does anyone else as fucking awkward as I do when you walk around bare footed in someone's house?!?!?

Off in the house, but I dont wear shoes half the time outside either. My feet are always dirty and gross but who cares.

this of course, my previous post was for my own house/possibly relatives house

and @1337, i think if a pool is involved and/or its a hot summer day bare feet is okay in someone else's house. Sandals are what make me think this is true

It just feels weird to go barefoot in someone else's house. Well, there are a few exceptions that are my very close friends' houses. But at my house? What the fuck are shoes and why do you wear them?

Not at all haha, if I spend a long enough time in a friend's house, I usually end up taking off my socks... just more comfortable for me. Of course, in the house of someone I'm not that close with, I'll leave them on, but if I didn't have socks on to begin with, I have no problem with going bare foot.

Well, this is my opinion, but it's also weird to see that there actually are a few people who are willing to wear shoes inside their own home, or even others.

I'd like to hear about these motivations and reasons why? Why on Earth?

in belgium i'd say the majority of households = shoes off insideand as a guest, i'd say you're about 50/50 allowed to keep shoes on or have to take em off

at my home it's shoes off if you're staying inside for, lets say more than 30 minutes, otherwise no problem keeping them on as long as theyre not too dirty ...

The house I live in Germany now, always off when entering the door, in America it was really how I felt on the day, more often then not off, but sometimes would wear them inside the house.

My feet hardly ever sweat or stink. I just find wearing shoes more comfortable than going barefoot most of the time.

People who wear their shoes into my house piss me off so fucking much. I HATE IT. If you are going to come into my house, you take your fucking shoes off or you wait outside.

It is definitely a northern thing. All my canadian friends always take their shoes off. My old roommate never took her shoes off and drove me crazy on a daily basis. My friends from southern california never take their shoes off either. I hate it so, so much.

Even if there isn't as much mud or whatever in the south, you still walk through disgustingness all the time. You still walk through sticky bars with spilled alcohol and get gum on your shoes or step in dog shit. It's not like you look at the bottom of your shoes every time you walk into a house. TAKE THEM OFF!

I don't see why you would want to wear shoes any more than you have to. The only time I wear shoes in the house is when beer pong is being played and the floor is likely to get wet.

Your whole post summarized my actions and views on shoe wearing inside of houses. I hate walking barefoot in other people's houses unless I know them well.

Here in norway, nobody wears shoes inside. I don't have any clue why so many in american insist on bringing shit into their houses. Step into the house, take your shoes off, and walk around as a normal person. Shits easy.
