Shipping from the US to Canada

I want to buy a camera off a guy on NS and he lives in the states and i live in Canada.I would be paying $975 and will be getting it insured.i was just wondering because im getting it insured will i have to pay tax on it.
please let me know you experiences with shipping to and/or from the states to Canada

shit gets held up at the border sometimes for a few weeks, that's my only experience with cross border shipping.

i dont think you get charged any brokerage or fees if its claimed as a gift
