Shipping from the EC to Bozeman. What's best/cheapest?

Hi,

So I'm trying to figure out what is easiest/cheapest in terms of moving my shit from the Netherlands to Bozeman next year where I'll be studying. I simply can't take everything with me and I'm wondering what would be the most cost efficient way to shit a large suitcase/carton box to Bozeman. I was thinking of taking the extra stuff with me on a plane and then having it shipped from NYC to Bozeman with some American company. What copmany would be best to use? Fedex, DHL, UPS? I'll be ariving early juli and will be heading to school in Bozeman somewhere end of august, so I also need some additional storage in between that time.

Who can help this Euro guy out?

Regards.

There are a few international shippers that will ship anything over a certain size for like $250 or so. They only do specific country to country. Like my friend shipped the biggest snowboard bag he could find for $250 with probably 50 - 60 kg worth of stuff in it, from the US to Australia.

That being said, if you can get a per bag price on bringing extra stuff with you (rather than per kg) you're better off bringing extra bags.

You'll need to put the stuff in boxes, so I would use a duffle bag that you can throw in the box as well.

Should be about $15 if you ship two week USPS (usually get it a lot faster) for about 10kg.

If you need to ship skis, I sent myself 2 pairs in 1 box with the bindings off for $13 from CA to CO. So I imagine you could do the same. I took 1 large box and cut it up and sort of just wrapped my skis in cardboard and put the shittier skis on the outside to protect the nicer ones a bit more.

Just make sure you get tracking numbers. You can rely on the post office pretty decent if you have tracking numbers and it isn't that bad to pay insurance if you are doing skis, its like $7 or so.

USPS (us postal service) is going to be cheaper than Fedex or UPS, but it will take longer. But to me, it's worth it if you can go with out the stuff for 10 days or so.

Make sure you use the "freight" rates, not the normal weight rates. Once you get around 50 pounds it ends up being cheaper

Cheapest will probably be just to take it on the plane with you,, each extra bag is like $60 and that will be cheaper than any shipping. Also, don't know why you would bring it to new York and then ship, don't your bags get put on your connecting flight anyways?

Thanks for the answers. I don't give a damn if it takes longer. Anyone got anything else?

USPS -> Freight. Let me check how much that'll be.
