shins hurt? any suggestions

Hey I just got some new boots this year Lange comp boots cause my old technicas where really hurting my shins so i thought it was the boot. The boots worked really well for a few months and now my shins are starting to hurt again to the point where its hard to even ski. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i might be doing wrong with the boots etc??

thanks

mike

that happens with me too...first, you might want a softer boot...next, when buckling up, make sure the bottom top buckle is tighter than the top buckle...

oh yeah, and go get a insole made by surefoot...they can explain everything to ya...i sitll get occasional splints, but its also from doing jumps and rails...

I had hard core shin pains in Canada. You can either take a week off of skiing. Which sucks or just take like 3 aleves or any pain releaver before you ski.

Or you could buy softer boots basicly what the other guy said

thanks tweaks_rock_me

i got insoles as well not custom ones but the ones that mold to your feet as well as the boots are hot form so i just cant figure out what could be possibly wrong since i got them all fitted out

Its acctually not the bone that hurts when u get shin bang, its the muscles in that region in the leg being streched while the foot is in place, the way u can cure it is by doing these toe twirl things while ur sitting in class or something. Just spell you name in the air 20 times with each foot. It worked very well for me.

Go to a sport massues and get a rub. You will proably have shin spints. Resting it will ease the pain but getting a rub should fix it.

Shin splints are caused from landing backseat. becasue your boot doesnt flex backward, the force of landing puts a ton of stress on the front of your leg. you gotta learn to be more on top of your skis while landing. also, if you can adjust the stance on that boot, set it t be more upright. this is more inclusive to park riding. try skiing in walk mode if it has it. on some boots, it works great. it just takes some getting used to. it doesnt work for some boots though.

If I ski anymore than about 4 days in a row I get this. I normally just jump out on the snowboard for a day or two to stretch a few different muscles. Will try that toe circling thing!

if you have shin splints, wrap your calves with athletic tape when you're getting ready, the compression really helps, we have to do that sometimes at gymnastics....

get those dr. scholls gel foot things and cut them into a good shape and put them in your boots on your shins. i've never tried it cuz i dont get splints but i think it would work. try it.

yea ive got the same things as bristol and i get these weird cramps things

get good arch supports. they work wonders. I heard its from having poor arch support and then it pushes your arch down and it agitates the muscles and ligaments in your shin from getting pulled down. so get arch supports and wear them in your shoes and your ski boots. wear them all the time and shin splints will probably go away.

this guy at the solamen store in whistler tought us this thing so you dont get shin bang, you take the strap to tighten your boot, and instead of tightening the outside of your boot, tighten the inside, i cant relaly explaine it over the internet

Make sure you stretch out your shins. A good way to do so is to (before you get into and ski gear, and no shoes just socks) get on all fours on the ground. Point your toes so that the top of your feet are touching the ground. Then sit back, and put some weight on your feet. Make an attempt to softly pull your shin away from your feet which will give you a nice stretch. Keep a good amount of bodyweight on your hands and arms though, because too much weight on your feet will cause problems with your heels to arise. Make sure that your shins are good and stretched out, and then go kill it.

do all above AND get some ace bandages and wrap your shins (not too thick!). this works wonders and i do it daily.

Putting the strap between the shell and liner helps, like the guy above said. Even better, get yourself some Booster Straps - they solved all of my shin problems immediately.

...I know this is going to sound extremely discusting/weird but last season I had shin bang so bad that I had minor stress fractures in my shins. Well then someone gave me a tip to put pads (yes I know weird) inside of my boots and it actually really worked to ease the pain.

Go to the website and I'm sure it explains everything. They greatly improve fit at the shin and eliminated shin bang completely for me. If you have foot cramps then get some custom footbeds. Even if you don't think you have problems, get them - I'd never go without mine now.

What do booster straps do anyways?

The Booster straps are elastic power straps (REALLY strong elastic), so you can get them really snug and have control without them being painfully tight. When you hit a bump your shin moves forward slightly but the elastic takes all the shock out of it. They rule. Buy them. I'd recommend them even if you think your normal straps are good jsut now. www.theboosterstrap.com tells you everything.

^my friend has really bad shin bang so she wears it after as well in the condo

some good info, some bad info in here. first, which comps are they? comp 100, 120, 120 freeride? the liners are heat moldable, which will help to hold your foot where its supposed to be. your footbeds, no matter how good, arent going to do anything for the shinbang. you need the boot as tight as you can have it around your calve muscles so there is no room for your shin to 'hit' the front, it should always be against the front. as said above, booster straps are the way to go to fix this. if you still have problems, take the two allen bolts out of the back of your boots to soften them up, i did that with mine, shin bang was gone. if you still have problems, take some sort of foamy material and cut it to fit right onto the tongue of the boot. that will take up space and give you something softer to flew into. that should solve your problems

buy some booster straps from my for 15 bucks, never been used...they might not solve the problem, but there is a good possiblility the will help...even if not, it was only 15 bucks...
