Shingles?

Anybody dealt with them? I am 22 and just got diagnosed with them. Super shitty and painful, anybody had them / have any ideas or methods to help ease the pain? I got on the antiviral medication about 4-5 days after they showed up. Also, the doc is putting me on antidepressants for nerve pain relief. Really bummed as University and work is crazy busy right now

Buddy had it at 20 on his face....so at least you can feel good that it's not there.

But other than what you said there isn't much to do

yea super blessed i don't have it there. I hear you can go blind, deaf, or even in some cases die if it is on your face.

God how bad is your immune system man? That's sucks major balls. At least it will be gone and hopefully not return during ski season

Ayy, I got it when I was 5. I don’t remember it hurting much, but it has been a while. It can come back later if I don’t take care of myself

I like to think its really good I eat healthy sleep lots stay busy and active. The reoccurrence rate everywhere I saw online is super low for someone like me but still scary. I could totally see how it would disable a person almost completely. I was under an insane amount of stress a few weeks back and haven't had the best headspace as of late but I'm getting help now and I really hope that was the cause and it won't return. Thanks, man I appreciate your kind words. They just put me on ani\tidepressants which is kinda a bummer, but it is supposed to help with nerve pain and any lasting pain after.

Good luck homie. Shit is super painful, I have not had them but know of people who have. Usually there is an ointment you can rub on them along with a pain med but I think you just have to let it do its thing like chicken pox. Hang in there and take care of you, get you sorted and then things will follow.

I don’t know if it depends or not, they misdiagnosed it first as ringworm and it didn’t get better during the two weeks or so of that. It was gone within a week or so of taking the antivirals. On the bright side OP will now have cool scars to talk about.

Crazy shit, you had them at 5? I can only imagine the pain you were going through and not quite understanding what was going on.

Never had shingles but wife did and she’s a doc so....

1 if you had chicken pox, you have shingles virus it just hasn’t shown it’s teeth yet ! Severe stress other factors can bring it out

2 nothing to do with being healthy, not everyone that had chicken pox will get shingles

3 it very rarely comes back , tends to more of you get it when your older 50+ , getting it at 20 is good , it’s less likely to come back , less likely to scar at all , my wife’s did not

4 if it comes back multiple times with a mid diagnosis , it’s not shingles likely poison ivy or a bacteria or even form of excema

finally shingles even after gone can forever in uncommon cases more directed towards the elderly still have pain in the area that had been affected

I hear ya can be really depressing to get medical news at any age

You basically go from being invincible to “ oh shit it can happen to me and what’s next and , oh shit I have that and I’m sure it’s killing me “ lol

your especially good being that it’s not on your face , usually doesn’t spread after initial few days , it will follow a nerve path one side of body

not much to do not lotion no oil just leave it be , no itching take the suffer and u shouldn’t scar especially with your young skin

True healthy people can get shingles and for an unknown reason it's on the rise.... Likely OP's issue as it sounds like he's a normal dude.

Although you're wrong to say shingles has nothing to do with being healthy. A weakened immune system is still the number one risk factor for getting shingles. That's why the incidence sharply rises after age 50 and why people who are immunocompromised (due to meds or diseases such as cancer or HIV) have a significantly higher risk of getting shingles versus the normal population.

yea that sounds awful

it would suck to have them as a kid especially that young because you wouldn't know how to deal with them

that would be crazy bad

For the record, I don’t remember how it felt, but I also don’t remember much from my early childhood (before 10 or so) other than very specific time-based events and a few visuals and sound snippets. I’m for sure fortunate that my parents have a lot of understanding of what to do in events like that and were able to recognize when the symptoms didn’t get better.

My neighbor has persistent reoccurring shingles. Hes over 50, but his outbreaks are crazy.

I hope you get over it soon. I wish I knew more about it to help you out.
