Shine bottom park now open

hey guys, was at shine today and they opened up the bottom big park finally, some fun jibs and rails but the best part is the new jump in the bottom, good size, not super long but poppy and big wide landing, super fun park, now you can get a good full park lap in!

halarious as most places around the country are getting ready to close they are just finally getting all open. Good thing they have another almost 2 months on their season.

I'm glad it's finally open but the delays (and quality in general) this year have been pathetic, i'm not sure what the story is but something major has changed from last year. They've had more snow to work with this year so why has it taken so much longer to get so much less?

And even with the recent build they still haven't set up the DFD rail, what self-respecting park doesn't have a DFD?

The owners fucked up. There was some heavy shit involving some lead patrollers and a member of the owning family skiing some dangerous, not yet open terrain. Patrollers caught shit for doing their job, and got sacked. A bunch more employees got fed up, and quit in response. Sunshine was severely understaffed in experienced, efficient personel this year. There was a spill over effect from all areas of the hill.
And yeah, that DFD is always my favourite thing in the park.

just raking the wedge on the second big took them over an hour on Sat... three park staff all with rakes.

BUT DAMN, that bottom booter is fun.

I know about the whole patrol fiasco (thread on it I posted here https://www.newschoolers.com/ns/forums/readthread/thread_id/596114/) and was wondering if it had a knock on effect on the park or whether it was just a lack of man hours/cat hours being provided by management. Is it true the terrain park supervisor is one of the ones that quit in response?

Still i'm confused about the thinking behind the park builds this year - when building the upper park the existing lower park had a load of it's features stripped for the upper build yet you can see plenty of features just laid on the snow not being used - why not build with those instead of taking down the few features you already built? This meant that in the middle of the season instead of the number of features gradually increasing (and becoming more varied) it would get worse for weeks before the new build was finally finished. Hell, even the temp early season park on Wawa had more features than the main park did at one stage months later. It's incredibly frustrating to be left with a variety of 10ft flat boxes and ski past way more interesting and fun rails and boxes that just aren't being used (the DFD being especially missed).

The park crew supervisor and another cat driver quit a couple months ago leaving only 2 people capable of driving the cat. Both those guys also work during the day. They have a 8 man crew. 4 during the week

sunshine is probably the shitiest hill in all of alberta and maybe B.C. it takes 15 min to get to the base area from the parking lot and the runs are sooo short! lake louises park is amazing this year!

message MLB here on ns. he is one of the cat drivers and would be more than happy to answer any of your questions and take comments about the park that you have. the more you talk to the management of sunshine and the park, the more will get done. if you dont say shit and hide behind your ns name then the park crew is going to think things are going fine.

Hey guys, sorry about not responding to some of your messages earlyer ( me being poor and loss of internet are to blame). Thanks Campbell for letting the people know whats going on, how is Kamloops btw?

So yeah grizzly park is open, and i hope you like it. Honestly right now we are just trying to keep things open with the amount of snow we have. When the park snow level is higher then the takeoffs, well it means were busy ( so don't come to the park and ride the AWESOME april pow anyways).

Right not im the only full time park cat driver, but we are training another guy, and our other driver splits his time with the day crew guys.

Honestly if you want a great park....you have to FIGHT for it. Sunshine is the most oldschool/conservative ski resort on the mountain. Unless tons of people come and tell me that they will lose money unless they expand the park, then they will cut our funding/terrain/resources. We are operating on a bare bones crew right now, and the higher ups WANT TO CUT BACK! I can only do so much, but you guys have to prove that a park at Sunshine will make them money.

Guys flood my inbox with your opinions. I will do my best to make features that you guys love, and keep the sunshine park alive.
