Seriously how can pros squat out backseat landings off every jump in a slopestyle comp yet I land slightly backseat once on a 3 and I'm sidelined for the day?
Have this same experience learning 3s. For me I learned that I ride backseat, may feel dope, but does not feel great when you land backseat and get the shinbang. The second thing for me was that I wasn't really popping, this plays a big factor on how you're going to land, especially when it comes to spinning.
Also, you could just grab a couple beer koozies and shove em between your shin and boot liners. Did that for a season, didn't make my 3s any better, but it sure as hell saves the shins.
