a good way to get rid of shin splints is to ice down your shings....also strengthin your calf muslcle by writing the alphabet with your foot in the air, try it out

no matter how hard you shake and dance, the last few drops go in the pants

I've always found that a cool bath helps. Shin splints hurt like hell, so tighten the boots and wear thicker socks (like the others have been saying)

...It sometimes tough to control whether or not you land back seat though. (I'm sure you don't always TRY to)

Whatever someone said ^ there was a good idea. Strengthen your calves a lot and also make sure you stand against a wall and point your foot up and set it against a wall at a 45 degree angle. Then stretch out your calve alot. Also put your hands against wall at about shoulder level and put your legs back prett far and make sure they are flat on the ground and then stretch out that way. Shin splints can be caused by a muscle strength inbalance between your calve and your shin and making sure they stay very very well stretched help enormously. Also, you can take a can of paint, fill it with about 10 pound weights, put it on the end of your foot and sit on a table so your legs are dangling and then lift it up and down with your foot. A great strengthener.

I used to get them really bad, the above advice is good but the thing that did it for me was booster straps. I got them bad because my calves are so skinny but thick socks and booster straps really helped. They hold your leg to the boot much better. Try making your boot a bit softer too maybe?

stick you legs out strait, put one on top of the other, and pull up with you bottom foot agaisnt the heel of the top leg, this strenghthens your muscile opposite the calve, and fixes the muscle imbalance that causes shin splints

shin bang is from landing back seat not hitting your shin on the front of your boot, so don't ski in the back seat

Yeah but shin splints are caused by one of 3 things 1.There is a muscle imbalance between the calf muscle and the muscle on the front of your shin. 2.The muscle on the front of your shin is too big for the sheath its in which causes bad circulation. 3.The muscle on the front of your shin is torn.

guys guys to stop shin bang try the booster straps they help big time!!! also shin bang and shin splints are two different things! shinbang is from your leg bending back in the ski boot from back seat landings what happens is the front micromussles tear off the bone causing the pain. shinsplints are from imapct to the legs such as hard landings(basketball, hockey etc etc)

i think you are supposed to ski through them unless they get worse instead of going away, in which case then you should consult a doctor.

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of

arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly

proclaiming...'Wow! What a ride!'

i just got new boots....and my calf muscle is so squeezed. my muscle goes seriously half an inch to an inch ove tthe side of my boot when they are on the loosest. i lose circulation bad from it.

I used to have the same problem too. Except in mid winter i would get some osgood schlatters things in my knees from basketball and that was worse than the shin splints. At least you can walk around, let alone not ski.

go to your local boot fitting shop and get a neoprene thing that goes onto your tounge. it helps soo much. i just got mine done and it only costs 15 bucks

all you suckers with pussy ass legs. and believe me, i have the scrawniest chicken legs of all of you and use the transfers and no probs, hahah, comfort personified. i wore my boots eleven hours the other day and they were still comfy at the end of the day. one question though, why the hell would your shins get sore if you rode back seat, the pressure is on the back of your leg, no?

landing backseat is the # 1 cause of shin splints, yes it does hit the back of your leg but in that same motion the muscle is getting pulled away from the calve ultimately causeing pain at the front of the leg , doctors advice went something like that

keep ur weight forward, do not wind up to much, keep ur arms down and spot ur landing i just fixed my landings this weekend and im happy

nothing makes sense

make sure you stech before ytou go skiing. do alot of streches,it makes skiing alot more cmofortable.

Being out there skiing every day, good or bad, just playing around with friends, with no contests or filming- that is the real spirit of skiing for me. that is why i started skiing, and if i lose those moments that is what will make me stop skiing.

strech before you ski. if you got them, take both hands, grab your calf with your fingers on the bone and your thumbs oppsite in the center of your calf and squeeze with your thumbs toward the bone AS HARD AS YOU CAN. work your way up and down the calf in small incroments. it hurts so bad but it will get rid of them wit tha quickness.

safty first, keep it real and stay positive

tider balm is the best for shin splints, it almost takes all the pain away. Then im usually fine for the rest of the day. Or what i do is, ice them for 10 minutes, then blow dry them for 5, and do that a couple times, it helps circulaition and takes a bit of the pain away and helps them heil.

kinda funny, you would think landing backseet would hurt you calfs not shins, but it doesnt, once when i was little i had a chrlie horse and i was putting tiger balm on it and crying, then i wiped my eye and got tiger balm in it, ouch

I don't need no arms around me
I don't need no drugs to calm me
I have seen the writing on the wall

if u take a week or 2 off makeing sure that u ice them everynight and take ibuprofene twice a day u should be fine after 2 weeks to ski again. but dont land backseat AT ALL for the next couple of weeks. If u do,that time u took off will be pointless

Massaging, Icy Hot and Advil did it for me, it still hurt when I ski but... I can live.
