Shin Pain

Whenever I flex into my boots (so pretty much whenever I'm actually skiing) my shins hurt like a bitch. If I'm just standing or on the lift or something they're fine. Do you guys have any idea about what's causing this and how I can fix it?

as the others said, its called shinbang. and its from landing and pressure between your boots and your shins. i had such a bad time last year with it and went out to my local dollar tree and hooked myself up with 1$ elbow supports. kinda like these http://www.tennisnuts.com/images/product/main/0968X.jpg

i wear em over my ski socks like like shin guards and have half in my boot and half out so it gives some extra padding right where shinbang is the worst. helped me out, and i hope it helps you out.

this will allign your body in the proper configuration

damn

beat me to it

yeah but what others have said also i find tightening my boots more helps prevent it. try to stay in the front of your boots/leaning forward when you land off jumps

take a couple days off, your over working the muscles and tendons on the front of your shins. When you do go back to riding make sure that you tighten the top of your boots the less room between your liners and your shins the better. In the mean time go to walgreens or whatever drugstore dominates your geographical region and pick up some "Blu EMU" lotion. It's kinda by the bengay and icy hot. It doesn't burn like those and it soaks in fast and relieves pain, side note it also works on sore knees. Hope that helps

Saga advice will help then see a good bootfitter and get some booster straps or if your boots allow it, put your power strap under the upper cuff under the plastic and outside the liner. Or you can get an Eliminator shin pad or equivalent device. Good luck

cut 2 pieces a memory foam bout 1 1/2 inch by 6-7 inches. place them on each side of the center of your shin so almost an inch apart, push down on them to make sure there is no pain. (do this over your ski sock then use tape and rap it around your shin, then put ski boots on. this has worked so well for me and i always have shin bang in my left shin from a injury i had a while back.

its called shin bang. and invest in a pair of booster straps. they go around the liners of your boots and prevent shin bang. you need to tighten your boots. booster straps really really help

tightening the boots prevents it, not stops the pain. The only way to top the pain i to stop riding for a couple of days. If you do ride have the boots loose and dont go to big and especially dont land backseat, it will make it so worse. Hope that helps

what broke? i have ill moros, wondering if the tope strap has broken on anybody. also unnecessary thread bump was unnecessary, getfulltilts is soooo 2009

take it easy for a week. no jumps at all. if you must, ski, then stay fully centered the whole time, and leave your boots moderately tight, but not to the point of pain.

in about a week (depending on the severity of your condition) your shins will be back to normal, and you can ski again. once your shins are 100%, tighten the shit out of your boots every time you put them on. booster straps can help, but the only thing that prevents shin bang entirely is staying away from backseat landings on jumps.

remember: shin bang is a compounding injury, so if you stress your shins before they are fully healed, you can expect to add even more days to that one week recovery time.
