Shell or Insulated jackets

This winter I am thinking about buying a shell jacket for the first time for ice climbing, x-country skiing, and some freestyle. What would be some tips and tricks about buying shell jackets? I am 6 foot 1 and a pretty lanky dude and so far the hardest part about finding a jacket is the sleeve length, are there some companies that make jackets with a longer sleeve?

Heya Scott. I am no expert, but i just bought a Patagonia myself (6'5) and i like the body and sleeve length alot. It's a bit large, but since it's a shell i will be layering up anyways, so i love it

Ugh, and about insulated or not, what i heard is that most people prefer shells as you are free to decide how many layers you wear, so you can pretty much use it in any conditions
