SheJumps - Get the Girls Out experiences

I'm going to the one at Stevens pass this weekend, but they happen all over the country. I have a bit of a beef with the event though, it claims to be park oriented but last year we didn't even ski the park really, and our park instructor bailed due to "bad weather". It was raining. I mean wtf, it's skiing, the weather sucks sometimes, you just deal with it. I'm trying to cut them some slack since the event is relatively new. Hoping for better results this year, and hopefully more turnout, last year only a dozen or so ladies showed up.

Has anyone else gone to SheJumps events at other hills, if so what was your experience like?

I haven't been to one, but I've always been super interested in the company, they seem super rad. Report back and let us know how it went!

Ooo I'd like to go to the Stevens pass one but I'm not a park skier :( I want to go to some of the SheJumps all women avalanche courses I feel like I've seen them do. An all women's backcountry ski trip is what I want to happen.

THIS.

They are still doing a bunch of different events throughout the rest of the year in a variety of parts of the country. If you want to find an event you can look at the event listings by location at their webpage:http://www.shejumps.org/program/get-the-girls-out/

If you don't want to ski park you'll fit right in. I've had to really pressure and fight to get any kind of park group going each year, despite their claims of being a park oriented event.

As for how this year went, it turned out better than last year. A former halfpipe X-games competitor showed up last minute, it was completely thanks to her arrival that we were able to a have a park group, as the lady who was originally supposed to lead blew out her knee and no longer skis park (although apparently was once a serious park rider). Not sure why she was in charge of the park group since she is unable to ski park, but our surprise guest (she told me she only heard about the event the night before) was able to take her place as group lead.

We only had 3 intermediate park riders, 2 snowboarders and a skier(me) (plus our lead also a skier) and 2 new but curious skiers. Around 100 ladies signed up for the event, but at morning check in I only saw about 30 maybe. Everyone else who wasn't in the park group went off to do group rides that focused on things like skiing/boarding off piste, or just plain basics for the newer riders.

The park group was really fun, it was awesome to have a former pro offering me tips and advice, but mostly we were just about having fun shredding the park as an all girls group. We split off from the never-ever park skiers after a couple runs. I felt bad for the snowboarders because we didn't have anyone to give them tips, but everyone was super supportive of each other which is half the battle in the park. Just having other ladies rooting for you makes a huge difference.

At some point they were showing the film pretty faces in the lodge, but when our group was asked if we wanted to watch it we unanimously agreed we would stay out and shred instead. One girl said "Why would we go inside to watch a movie, I thought this was 'get the girls out' we should be outside shredding." Everyone else pretty much agreed. We also skipped lunch because we were having too much fun, although I heard rumors some food was provided.

At the end of the day I swapped phone numbers with several other ladies and we definitely want to all meet up again, so it was a pretty good day, despite the shejumps organizers not really making it happen, at least for the park group. It looked like the non park oriented groups were larger and better staffed.

There is going to be another one at Snoqualmie Pass on February 6th if anyone in Washington is interested. I'm not sure if I'll go. It all depends on if I can get any of the Stevens pass park ladies to go, so I'm not the only park rider.

I'd be interested in some Washington events. I'd make the drive but not sure with school etc. if I can drive that far for an event that weekend. That's sweet you ended up having someone there to ski park with the ladies. I kind of wish the events were bigger and maybe they'd have some big mountain/off piste groups and park groups and everyone can just kind of split up like you said. Really just needs some more organization. Maybe you could apply to be one of the SheJumps ambassadors for this region!? Try and get some things moving or something. I'd love to but I don't have the time right now.

I've been trying to see if there's some SheJumps activities at Schweitzer and places a little farther East but haven't seen much movement. Hope SheJumps gains publicity and followers, I'd hate to see it fizzle out.
