Sharing Shots and Locations in Ski Movies

This year I ended up purchasing basically every ski movie that came out and I noticed that many of them shot at the same locations and some even used the same shots. Has anyone else seen this?

For instance, Less and Burn both used the same shot of Berman on the wall transfer. Ten and Two and Burn both shot at the same massive close out. Twenty and Burn used a bunch of the same shots of Crazy Karl and the Warren Miller movie (which was absolutely terrible) used many of the shots from Twenty of Gagnier. I am sure that there were many more examples as well.

I don't usually watch all of the movies that come out in a year, so it this normal?

You can't say "steal". Often the shots or similar shots are shared around if the skier is doing multiple segments. Also, sometimes multiple companies will do a shoot together. It really isn't stealing

It's not even that bad compared to back in the day, in 2001-2008 I feel like movies shared so many shots, it was insane.

not only that, but back in the early 2000s it had crossover with still shots in magazines too. i would watch all the movies back then and remember like 75% of the shots in mags from shots in movies

OP, it happens here and there nowadays but that sounds like more than normal for sure. just little deals between companies

Also, since film productions are usually pretty secretive about their spots they go to, they take down the jumps after every session, if two crews go to the same spot they probably have no idea that they did. This happens often because the film crews go to where the snow is and end up hitting the same features, usually they wont do the same trick but thats the downfall of urban skiing.

agreed^ it used to be a game of up the ante every season on the premiere urban spots... i really enjoy when the same location gets hit by two skiers with different styles, different tricks, in totally different ways....

Stealing was probably a bad choice of words. I was mostly just trying to see whether other people had noticed the same thing or not and if there was an explanation. The goal was not to accuse the companies of stealing.

In an totally related question.. In your opinion what was your favourite movie from this year OP?

There were some super rad ones, so its hard for me to say. Ten and Two is by far the best urban one in my opinion. Loved the filming, skiing editing, song choices, the way the whole movie flowed was fucking sick. Almost Ablaze was my favorite for backcountry. McNutt crushed it, so did Durtchi, Tudor, McIntosh and Angel Collinson. Filmed in some great locations, sweet pow segments. The Jackson Hole one and the one on Mount Moran were two of my favorites. Twenty was also super dope all around. Probably the most well rounded of the three. Pep's opener and Tanner's closer were by far the two sickest pillow segs I have ever seen. Karl and Dane also killed it. I don't know where I was going with this, but check out those three if you get the chance.
