Shameless Realism

Does anyone else find this picture a misrepresentation of western society?

I found it on some idealism page on Facebook, and kept thinking that while the arts are essential, and every life is important, etc., things like earning a real living, respecting the earth's carrying capacity and recognizing the necessity for testing and learning the fundamentals of sciences and other black and white subjects are perfectly valid. It'd take me an essay to truly express my views so I'll just leave this here and open the floor to discussion.

GO!

Don't think it's that invalid. Just look around this forum and you'll see the perception people have of the arts vs. something "useful" like math and the sciences.

america's public education system is crap. it teaches to the middle, shuns creativity, and the way it portrays the math and sciences steers many people away from them. there is a necessity for testing but not for the standardized versions which we are familiar.

so yes i think western society could learn a thing or two from that cartoon
