Semi hot take on bringbacks

Just for a moderately hot take, the whole idea of trying to do bringbacks is a good one for sure. Like instead of spin to win as much, finding a new fresher way of progression (~in theory~)

BUT, I haven't seen too many that really look super good just from an aesthetic/steeze standpoint. I feel that grabs are seen as less necessary for them and there can be pretty significant shuffles and less clean landings. Also, I get the whole point is they are not supposed to be natural movements and that can come with pretty forced arm/body motions, but I think that sometimes that can make the trick not look super good despite the evident difficulty of breaking physics lol.

I think a good example of doing the bringback right and making it look actually dope as hell is A Hall in this Kimbo edit at 2:22

Not to completely negate all I just said, but I would say a notable exception to my point is the Birk Ruud flat 0. I think that he took that to such a big feature that it just could not be described as anything other than sick or nasty af hahah

Bringbacks have lost their magic since every pro can do them now. But no one can do them like Matej (except maybe Ahole).

It’s just a trick you wouldn’t have thought of before you saw it and after that it’s just boring because it isn’t particularly beautiful. I do want to see all the variations that they can come up with.

I was really hyped on them a few years ago when they were less common. I still appreciate one that's done really well or when I see it done in a newer way. But a lot of them are becoming more boring to me

shifty late/slow aired out 180 always gonna be more stylish to me than any technical bringback. Probably saying this cuz i cant do any sizable technical bringback

I just feel like a cork 9 blunt or a nice switch 5 with grab is a pretty emulated trick, one that you would envision doing (albeit maybe not do bc those are not the easiest tricks hahah).

A switch 5 bringback, at least how a lot of them have been done recently, probably not as relatable/emulated....I don't even know what to call it at this juncture, like a switch 7 but you bring back so it's a "switch 5 bringback"??

I understand part of ski progression is maybe just doing things completely alien to the more casual freeski person (not to say we're casuals haha), and that what can be done with the cork 9 and switch 5 is probably pretty tapped, but a lot of bringbacks just aren't particularly memorable as they are currently being done tbh

Matej has some of the nicest put backs I have ever seen in the new faction movie. Kid makes them look super stylish.
