Self mounting

I have got a pair of skis that are used and the shop wont mount them for me because they were mounted like four times by the previous owner. Any tips on me mounting them myself. I did it before with a pair of skis I found in the garbage and it turned out okay.
 
for a second there I thought you were referring to sex....cause you'd have to be pretty flexible to do that.
 
Have fun skiing those, they will prob snap on your first run. You realize there is a reason they won't mount them right?
 
if these skis are on their 5th mount....they are gonna break as soon as you ride them.

May as well just make a chair with them or something...
 
go for it bro....

epoxy and plug the old holes and make a make ship stencil jig...

firgure out your boot sole length and hole location...use a smaller bit than needed so the screws have some material to bite into...

why not do it yourself it is not rocket science...figure it out with a ruler and a magic marker...

the skis will likley break

If your interested in learn to mount this will be a good way to do it.

but skiing on those skis....would be bad.
 
yo, first off yo, you need a drill, with some power yo, maybe even a power drill yo, then, you put a drill pit in that shit yo, then, you screw that shit in yo, then you are gonna snap the shit out of that ski yo. Yo, i'm out
 
I rode them all last year with that many holes and they didnt break. The shop said they would break or pull out. I beat the shit out of them and they withstood everything.
 
are all the holes plugged? you could maybe just put some binders back on them with the existing holes and they might work for a while.....but you probably allready thought of that so yeah, break a leg.
 
What the fuck is wrong with you guys, the skis will be fine. Just Duct tape your dindings on then ductape some teva sandels in them and you can fucking kill it, Its what TJ does.
 
Well uh, my fingers are crossed for you, as will be all of the bones in your body should you pursue having a recreational time on such deadly contraptions.
 
Get some new skis and use the old ones as rock skis. After 4 mounts, your ski can snap pretty easily. Besides, mounting without a jig and using regular bits is pretty freaking hard!
 
isn't there a line about 3/5 down your ski that runs perpendicular to the length of your skis? Look at your boots. There should also be a line on them about midway on the bottom of your boot. Drill the holes in your skis so that when you boot is snapped into your bindings (when they're on the ski) the line on your boot and the line on your ski are together. Congruent. Whateva.
 
Another few notes if you are planning to self mount:

-Make sure you use the right drill bit diameter. 3.5 mm is the safest bet, and 4.1 mm for skis with metal topsheets (or unless it says on the ski)

-Don't drill any deeper than 9 mm on an adult ski, any more and you'll go through the base

-Set your heel piece's forward pressure setting to the middle so that you're able to adjust it either way after you mount them.

-Make sure you use some sort of glue when you're screwing in the bindings, otherwise the screws can rust

-Don't over-torque the screws, cause if they strip, then you'll need to get a shop to heli-coil them.
 
First off, mounting your own bindings can back fire...trust me on this one from personal experience. Second, you're core integrity is going to be shot after you mount them a 5th time. There is a reason the shop won't do it. Don't you think that they want your money but they are looking out for your safety.
 
my first skis 2 years ago were like 1970's straight rossi's. they were mounted like 6 times and lasted almost all season. in spring skiing the heel binding broke off and the ski was trashed. i mounted 2 new pairs last year with just a drill bit and it worked out well. main thing is just dont go throught the base
 
Just take them to a different shop and have them Heli-coil them. the shop will drill larger holes and pound inserts into the skis then you'll mount your bindings into those inserts. You can still ski those skis...
 
unless your actually a tech then it is NEVER recommended that you mount your own skis. definitely looking for trouble there, especially if they have been mounted so often before. You may get lucky and they may hold fine, or they may rip out landing a 40ft table and put you in the hospital. You really want to risk it?
 
Personally I would just mount them myself and ride them (carefully) until they break..no big jumps or flying down the hill....just run them through the moguls util they break...they are not going to like come flying apart and spear you or anything...the edges and top sheet will keep them together...they will just be floppy
 
mounting binders is not rocket science, I mount about 100plus pair a year, mostly friends and demo fleet skis, any monkey can do it...

just use common sense...go for it

the stoner guy in the shop is winging it half the time anyway
 
^But I have mounted many pairs without any...you may even beable to get a paper jig pattern e-mailed to you from the company
 
i work at a shop, and you definitely shouldnt mount those things. they MIGHT not break, and the bindings MIGHT not pull out, but then again, if you play russian roulette, you MIGHT not kill yourself...
 
i mounted my own toepiece on my urban skis with no jib, and it waas fine, only 2nd mount though, and with a jig, i did a 3rd mount on my new urban skis. wouldnt trust em on real snow though
