Season ending headspace

Well, it got warm where I live. which put the season in meh-mode for the last 3 weeks. No more tourists coming in. All the seasonal workers have now left and its just sorta dead. Its a weird feeling because it should be the time of year where everyone just sorta kicks back, relaxes, and has some good spring park days, but the mountains havent invested anything into doing that. I just get the feeling that everyones exhausted and wants to go to the beach and retire for a few weeks before the rainy season hits. Including myself.

What do you guys feel like during the shoulder seasons? Before the snow has fully melted but after the buzz of the season has worn off and the storms stop coming?

Is it sad? is it excited? is it Anxious?

Share yo feels.

Now that I have a touring kit, I'm so hyped for the resorts to close. No more crowds, wake up whenever, ski with homies, weather is usually great, fantastic exercise, etc. Can hike some tubes or go off and ski some trees. My knee is not 100% and won't be until next season as well so spring touring is a great fit for that.

TLDR: I feel like I'm able to get back to the pure enjoyment of skiing during this time. It's what it's all about for me

I would be in this mode for sure, but unfortunately all my touring partners are either injured or left...

I could solo some stuff, but it takes some of the social aspect out of it - which is what I want right now.

I'm super excited for the lifts to stop turning. We always get some bonus april storms after the season ends and skiing the resort without traverse tracks is so fun. I also got a new mountain bike so I'm itchin to ride that.

The local hill flattened the jumps last week with at least 2 weeks of ski season still planned. I asked a lifty and he said they're already taking down features for the end of the season. Not happy at all.

I feel you. Most of my homies are younger than me here and don't have touring kits yet. I like going with the few that do, but at this point I'm still motivated enough to go on my own. I think it's similar to finding a gym buddy. You just need that one person who you can match schedules and go with once or twice a week

I'm dipping out to CO and UT for a long weekend soon. But raft and kayak season can really start whenever and the spring ski touring will be hitting till June. This is really my favorite time of year.

yeah... luckily this summer I have a climbing/surfing buddy for every weekend when I move back to Tokyo. Helps keep me motivated/doing cool shit and vise versa

Spring skiing at the bird was the thing I missed the most when I moved to BC. It just felt like the season ended so abruptly.

Seems like you got plenty to look forward to. Ski what you can and condition to make that trip as sick as possible. Is it a vacation, work, permanent move?? Where i’m at, we close one base area and clear it of snow while we have been farming it at the other that way skiing is prolonged and the transition to mountain biking is minimal. First season here so I’m not sure if they have a late season park.

I've been living in Japan semi-permanantly since 2019.

before the fridge id be falling into the same slump you're talking about right around this time. Ive moved off to maine so my fridge trips will be much less frequent than previous years which is kinda sad, but moving to sugarloaf their end of season events build so much hype for the spring laps. Reggae fest is 2 weeks out but they do this whole "road to reggae" with parties and performances leading up to it. I feel like it's just getting good now, but the end of the season is for sure gonna smack me straight in the face.

Best part of the season man, warm, slush, and sunshine. You can’t beat it - hate how everyone hates on spring skiing - best part is you can ski, hike, bike or whatever all in one day…

Ever been to Thailand? The rainy season is intense but nothing like ripping jungle laps on a pair of TW pros.

He's not talking about a tropical or subtropic location

I love the wind down but I wish really good conditions could persist until mid May not last week of April. My mid to late May I’m usually beat and ready to hit the beach, surf and go to concerts.

meanwhile I still have another 2ish months left at Snowbird and there is no sign of spring yet

God there are few things I want more than for Taos to stay open later. Sitting on a 99"/21.5" SWE base rn, haven't even had real spring skiing yet with the cold snowy march but still closing in two weeks. Usually I head to up to A-Basin for late spring laps but really debating driving a little extra for Snowbird considering the absolutely insane snowpack you have rn
