Season ender stories

I recently broke both bones in my lower leg overshooting a jump, lucky that it was late in the season and I can say I had a great year. Wanted to see the worst season ender injury stories the NS community has to share, comment below

I fell down some rocks and broke my shoulder a couple weeks ago it cut my season a few weeks short. Lucky it was the end not the beginning

Last day of the season I was about to go off a cliff. However, my skis caught a tree buried in the snow and so I slid off the cliff head first and landed on the boulders at the bottom. Hurt like hell.

2nd day of the season i broke both bones in my right arm. Luckily the season got messed up by el nino anyway so i didnt miss much.

I caught my tips on a knuckle tap 180 and flung me backwards onto my head. Had a pretty bad concussion that made me chill out and pretty much just film for the last 2 or 3 weeks of the season. Wouldnt consider it a "season ending" injury but definitely couldnt enjoy it as much as i would being 100% healthy

Broken Femur February 1st 2015 ended my season and made it hard to ski this season.

March 16 this year I came up short on a backflip and slammed my face directly into the landing. Knocked myself out and had a seizure. Wasn't a season ender because I got one more weekend in but still a gnarly ass fall.

On Dec 29th 2014 it was really cold and icy, I somehow overshot a jump and landed on my face (I don't remember the run) and was knocked out for about 10 seconds. The front of my helmet was crushed, with foam falling out, and I couldn't feel my face. I broke my nose and got a concussion, season ender because I got another concussion playing hockey.

Bro I was there when you broke your leg on gaper day, scared the living shit outta me... Get better!

Oh damn at winter park?! Were you a random passerby or someone who was with me?

First 3 of the season. Landed fine then flopped over, one ski stayed on and twisted my foot all the way around snapping my femur with a spiral fracture. Recovered fast and actually got one last day of cruising in a few weeks ago.

Yeah man, I was with the team that day... I'm not officially on the team but I've got a bunch of friends who are so sometimes I just shred with them. I saw your fall in DT though and it was gnarly as shit, nobody hit 3:2 the rest of the day

Oh man I can't believe no one else hit it. It sucked because it was the first lap and I was throwing down on that tube in rail yard and then I just got booted off 3-2 and boom I'm done. Luckily it happened in such a way where I didn't need surgery and should be back to normal by the end of June. How far did I go do you think

season in maryland ened in late febuary but i had I trip to steamboat planned with my family in early march. 6 hours before our flight was supposed to leave I had practice for lax. we were scrimmaging our varisty team and with about 10 mins left in parctice i get hit pretty hard going for a ground ball. I get hit off the ground (im a pretty small kid) and i land on collar bone, breaking it. good bye steamboat and the rest of the lax season

Sent a pile logs at northstar in early january during a storm that dropped the definition of sierra cement. Tomahawked real hard and tore my LCL and ACL.

On my first run of the day at Sunday River I over shot a jump by a solid 40 feet and went 25 feet to flat and tore my Lateral Meniscus in two pieces in the middle. At this point it might be more than a season ender, I may never ski park again. I have had two failed attempts to stitch it back and at this point looks like i am losing most of it.

How long was your hockey concussion after your skiing concussion?

January 3, 2004. I was living in Tahoe skiing Squaw everyday. It was my 6th year living up there. It was a sick powder day, and I was one of the first down Light Towers. It was perfect pow, light and soft. Light Towers is around 50 degrees, so normally it sluffs off, but that day it was perfect. A spine had formed, I made two turns down the spine, sluff pouring down on both sides, and pointed it out. It was super soft, powdery despite how steep it was, an insane feeling. I sunk in despite how steep it was. I skied from the towers to the Cornice 2 area and hit a nice 15 footer, not crossing a track. One of the greatest lines I have ever skied, maybe the best.

The largest air I had ever hit successfully was about 25 feet. That was late the year before. Normally, I would work up 10 feet, then 15 feet, then 20 feet, then maybe 25 feet late in the year when I felt solid. The day of my Light Towers line they opened Granite Peak next so I hiked up it. There is a cliff there called Smooth Air. It is about 40 feet. Even though I had not hit a cliff above 15 feet that year, or 25 feet ever, I was feeling confident, so I sent it. Right when I hit it I knew I was in over my head. I went into a crazy tomahawk. During my spinning I felt a loud pop and heard a pop. It did not hurt, but I knew it was bad. I went down to the bottom and they told me my ACL was torn. I knew I was going to grad school the next fall, and that this winter would be my last ski bum year, so I got a brace made and decided to ski out the season. After a month of skiing tentatively I realized I was not going to hit the lines I was going to hit and got surgery.

Now I ski 35 days a year as a weekender. I love my life, but some days I miss being a ski bum. I will never forget that line down the Light Towers, nor the crash off of Smooth Air. It is funny that right after the line of my life I ended my ski bum career by biting off more than I could chew. I hope the rest of you guys have as much fun as I did if your season ends.

Broke my pelvis yesterday, so i wont be skiing for a while.

Pissed that I'll be missing WCS 10 but other than that i had an awesome season

Idk man it was pretty deep, I would say almost between the end of 3:2 and the jump of 3:3

I didn't have an injury which was caused from skiing which ended my current season. Instead of that, I had a cyst on my tailbone which I guess I've had for a lot of years but I never really knew that it was there. All I could remember was that for a lot of years I had a bit of a stiff spot around my tailbone but I tought it was a result from all the lying on the floor from doing sit-ups and stuff... But one night after I got home from a night skiing session I saw a little blood stain on my clothes from the tailbone area. I went to the doctor the next day and he told me it was a cyst and that I had to go through a surgery in order to remove it. I'm still recovering from the surgery since I don't have any stitches, the wound must heal itself since it's a big one...

But anyways.. I was really bumped out because I just started stomping my backflips on the airbag and I was going to try a backflip on snow next week but then this happened... So I have to wait for the next season to try a backflip on snow... I'm posting a video from my attempts on the airbag.

Squaw is so gnarly dude its insane how crazy it is. I had been eyeing lookers right large cliff on the fingers for quite a while for a few years...finally this year with 3 ft of fresh was on top of it and realized just how god dam bit that cliff was. Backed off and went down the center chute instead. Still regret it to this day.

The one that got away. I backed off of the Chimney Sweep a bunch of times during the spring of 2003. I returned started the winter of 2003/2004 with it as my goal. When I got hurt that one went down the tubes. I still regret passing up the sweep to this day, it was my goal when I moved to Squaw and I never quite got there. I am a weekender now and the sweep is out of my ability level.

Yea man...really sucks but probably better off not hitting it. When your on top of those lines or going up KT right next to the fingers you realize how big those drops are. I've done a fair bit of the fingers but that one huge cliff on lookers right always eluded me. Looks "smaller" from a distance but up close its just MASSIVE. No problem going for a straight line or whatever with a 20 footer or something like that but that thing is just way to big for me. Gives you that much more respect for those pros who are flying off those things

I trained into a jump on the side of the run and turns out it was way more lippy then I thought it was. Threw me forward and broke collar bone.

I didn't sustain a season ending injury from this, but my last trick of the year was a pretty scary backflip under rotation. I landed it once on a smaller jump and messed up when I took it to a bigger jump (claim). Closing day peer pressure will get you sometimes.

It's the last trick in this video:

Classic ACL Menincus with a side of joint fusion happened in JAN didnt get any of the spring slush next year though stand by gonna be a heavy year moved to Colorado!!!!

Tore me ACL, MCL, and both meniscus in my right knee, femur and shin damage, on January 13th at keystone. 2 weeks after spraining my left MCL ... Came down off balance on a sw 270 disaster on the dfd, loooud pop, and worst wobble feeling ever. 9 weeks post surgery, PTPTPTPTPTPTPT until i ski.

lol this isn't like an awful injury but it makes for an alright story

I was skiing outside of resort boundaries and was trying to make it back in through the woods with a decent amount of snow but there was still small trees and plants pushing out through. Well as I was coming through the woods, a relatively big river came up out of nowhere. At the last minute I noticed the fact that the river was there and managed to get one ski completely over it. Unfortunately one of my skis became fully submerged in the river and I had to pull it out still attached to my boot. It was still cold enough out that the water froze as soon as it touched the snow and the ski wouldn't slide at all on the snow. I was still pretty high up on the mountain so I had to ski through the woods on one ski until I came out the the trail while holding my other ski the whole way down. It was actually pretty fun so if you ever lose one ski or something try it out
