Searching for skis for competition and maybe touring

So I'm 6'1" and 159lbs. Mostly I ski inbounds backcountry, but I sometimes do backcountry tours. This winter I want to get into competitive freeriding. So I'm looking for a big mountain ski which can handle the circumstances of a competition, but also I can do some tricks and cruise around with my friends on a pow day. This will be my second pair of skis, currently I'm skiing the black crows ova and sometimes I ski with the ski of a friend the Nordica enforcer 100. And I've skied an armada pipe ski with 95 under foot.

I would consider myself a advanced to expert level skier. I'm a Europe based skier, who will go to British Columbia after this winter. My Homebase is in the Austrian alps.

Would you recommend to put a touring setup on it.

Maybe:

- black crows anima

- atomic bent chetler 120

- moment deathwish

- faction prodigy 4.0

- faction CT 4.0

or a completely other ski?

I appreciate every reply.

My main touring ski is the Armada JJ Zero, and I like to fuck around and butter. It handles speed pretty well, but the Tracer 118 CHX is pretty much the charging version of that. My next ski would probably be that if I had the money.

If you've ever seen Duncan Adams rip the progidy 4.0s I'd say that sounds like what you're looking for. He steezes out everything but can still drop huge pillow lines and massive airs

So, I bought the prodigy 4.0 with the atomic tracker mnc 13. I think it was a good decision and thanks for the replies.

I stood on the podium twice with the CT4.0 in 2 freeride events and a touring contest at whitewater. However, conditions were near perfect with knee deep blower powder.

Good thing you went with the prodigy as basically all of those skis are definitely not ideal for freeride comps, generally speaking you'll often have to rip your runs on hardpack so you don't want a noodly pow ski. If you want a recommendation for the future I would highly suggest the 4frnt Hoji, it's almost unbeatable in the pillows, shralps pow, and has zero issues on hardpack.

I think Kristofer Turdell might disagree with you on the Anima? But you're probably right on the rest.

Didn’t realize this guy was on the world tour where they have a week long weather window and wait until it’s bluebird pow to ride most of the time. Any other comp is on a set day, Riding wether it’s shit conditions or not, which a majority of the time it is. In NA we have on slope inspection which means the venue gets totally scraped down to hardpack before anyone gets to ride it, however it’s starting to move towards visual inspection. So yeah he might disagree but he’s not skiing the same conditions as you would be doing the FWQ’s.

Sounds like mogul competitions where the weather loves to turn to shit a day before the event. In 5 years of competing moguls, I only have a handful of contests where the conditions didnt suck. Plus when you are an older competitor, you have to wait until the girls go down in snowplough, the youngest kids go down in snowplough until you can hit the course. By then its already a sheet of ice with the shittiest hard pack bumps. Last one down always get the worst conditions.

It should be that Freeride contests should be nearly onsight. Fuck course inspections. Thats why I love the Powder Keg event at whitewater. The hits are set into place and then its good to go.

All I’ve said is specifically about free ride competitions, I’ve never participated in a mogul comp. the coldsmoke huck fest is banger time every year tho, such good vibes

Visual inspection is definitely ideal for freeirde comps though and that’s the direction we are headed but currently most competitions in NA are on slope inspection. Bout time we caught up with Europe

It's so much worse in junior comps. All the u12s stand on the take off, break the lips down and fuck up the landings
