If you are going to be spending that much money on a camera set up I would suggest buying it new. Especially since camera stuff during skiing takes a beating compared to using it around the house. The best site for any camera related stuff...video, still, or digital has to be BH in New York. Their website ishttp://www.bhphotovideo.com the prices for new stuff are about what it will cost you for a used one on Ebay. Hope this helps a little.

i would suggest buyin it used becuase most people that buy a cam that expensive arnt gonna treat it bad, plus while skiing you will put wear and tear on a new cam and it will soon be just as good as a used cam

yeah used cams are a good idea, check ebay but only look for sellers with good ratings, if your looking in the price range you might want to look at the sony vx2000, its about 400 dollars more but it has better audio and low light performance and just a tid bit, Level 1 Shoots with Sony Vx2000s

do not get the sony over the canon. I've been using the sony for about a year now and i hate it. The biggest problem with it is it's lack of a good zoom. It only has 48x zoom which is not nearly enough when you are doing tripod work.

It does work well in low light, but it has this thing with putting it's light filter on when it's bright out, making it dark but leaving you unable to take disable it manually.

I don't have much experience with the canon but i do have a little, and the canon is a far superior camera in my opinion.
