Sealing Up Afterbangs?

So I'm getting my afterbangs back from the shop tomorrow, and in the time it took to get them mounted, I constantly read reviews. Aside from being made nervous about my new skis (but judging by the huge range of opinions, I should just see what I think), I saw somebody mention putting wood sealer on the sides to prevent them from getting waterlogged too quickly. Has anybody tried this, and to what result? Opinions are welcome, but it's probably been said before.

opinion:

considering how easy they get banged up, I think putting any kind of sealant would be absolutely useless.

I could be totally wrong though, I've never owned abangs.

the whole waterlogged thing is way over exaggerated. if you really are afraid try marine epoxy.

Don't mess up your brand new skis bud. There's probably a reason why line doesn't dip all their skis in marine epoxy...

You'll be fine; if you later have problems with your skis, take them to your local shop.

Have fun on the hill!

Its really is a problem IMO. If you ride a-bangs hard, they will absorb water from what I have seen.

But then again some people seem to be perfectly happy with their a-bangs. OP I wouldn't worry too much about it, sealing them wouldn't really do much.

I've ridden afterbangs for 2 full seasons, and I've never noticed any change in weight... I'm not sure if anyone has actually weighed their skis before and after to see if they actually got waterlogged.

In answer to your question, I can't see how normal wood sealer could hurt, but I don't think it's necessary.
