SD Card Choice

I've just bought a T3i and was wondering what you guys think about what SD card to get. I will be shooting a lot of HD video, and I know that for that you really need Class 6 or higher.

Ive heard that beyond the class needed wont really help in video, it will only really help in burst shooting.

It seems like class 10's are pretty much the same price as class 6 in most situations, but whats the difference between this ($100):

and this ($55):

Same class, but ive heard some people say stuff about different write speeds. Anyways, I know this may have been confusing, but all im asking is would I be fine cheaping out and getting the transcend class 10 rather than the sandisk, or will i regret it. Thanks.

Also, how many 32gb cards should I have for shooting HDSLR video? thanks!

I have 2 sandisk extreme 16g cards and i have never had any writing issues. always quick. and they have the word extreme on them haha

Transcend class 10 8GB cards - 12$ a piece. Cheap, reliable and fast.

Also, losing a 8gb or corrupting it isn't as bad when you use a small/cheap card, unlike when you're using a 32gb one with a looot of footage on it.

i think 8 gb is too small but thats a good point. I think i will go with three 16gb ones since i was torn between one or two 32 gb ones. will 48gb of space be enough for HDSLR video/timelapses. how many hours could i get out of it?

According to b&h (about the 7d which is the same files and such) 12mins takes 4gb. So really, with 16gb of card, you have 48 minutes. This might not seem like alot, but it is. You could get two 16gbs and have plenty. My hvx is roughly 1gb/min for 60p and i get about 35mins and that'll be enough to shoot for a full day.

I have 3 transcend 8gb class 10 for everything. Use them on friends t2i's sometimes and use them on my H4n.

Great cards, haven't had a problem yet

i highly recommend class 10. i have 2 16gb sandisk sdhc extreme class 10 cards and they've been great. it's the perfect amount of space too, i can only think of a couple times when i've needed more than those two cards for space.
i also recently picked up 2 16gb kingston class 10 cards and they work really well too.

ok, well since i was a little low on money since im building my rig right now, i just bought 1 16gb card for now. its a class 10 transcend, and hopefully the quality's good. if it works out as well as i plan ill get a couple more

As for brands:

- Transcend

- Sandisk

- Kingston

Don't buy anything else. Personally I'm a Transcend fan. Cheap and reliable. Imo Sandisk is quite overpriced.

Has anybody else used transend cards, they are significantly cheaper, so I was wondering how they stand up to scandisk?

well i just got a 16gb one, so ill update this thread in a little bit after ive used it some. unfortunately i wont have a sandisk to compare it to.

Transcend is just as good as Sandisk. Both cards have a chance to corrupt, it's only that when a Sandisk corrupts it's like: Oh man, shit happens. On the other hand, when a Transcend corrupts people are like: Don't buy Transcend, it's cheap junk.

All bullshit. Get Transcend, good stuff.

Also, maybe look into this:

Price is sick, just the question if they work well...
