Scuba Diving/Snorkeling thread

Any of you guys scuba dive? I have done it for years but only recently started to get into it. I am on a trip to Maui now and have done a couple amazing dives, today we went cave diving and saw around 15 green sea turtles, and 2 whitetip sharks, and the other day we found a huge brown stingray and a frogfish within a couple of minutes. Post stories and photos here. If there is nobody on here that dives let this thread die.

RESCUE CERTIFIED BITCH. havent been diving in 3 years though. i would LOVE to go back to the great barrier quief.

I went in the caves in Makena, I think the area was called the 5 Graves, and the dive when I saw the stingray and the frogfish was in the satellite reefs off of Ulua beach, in Wailea, both on the south shore. I've got a lot more dives coming up this trip, hoping to see some more sharks!

ya im in honduras for a month as we speak and im getting my master diver certification. today i got certified to dive enriched air.

I scuba dive casually, mostly just when I go to the BVI. There is an airplane wreck there that's pretty cool, as is the wreck of the RMS Rhone.

Advanced Open Water Diver right hurrrrr. On a deep dive in Mexico last Christmas I saw an 8 foot bull shark, so that was pretty badass, and slightly scary. Saw a bunch of rays on a different dive there too, which are majestic as fuck. Also went diving in the Bay of Pigs in Cuba so that was super cool just for the history of it and the claim factor.

Got certified when I was 13. One day I'd like to get to instructor level one day, that would give me something to do in the summer, with ski jobs being seasonal and all.

took another dive today, we went in to an eelgrass field to look at the outcroppings of a reef, I found another stingray, some cleaner shrimp(first time seeing them!), and a group of puffers. I will try to get pictures next time I go to post here.

First night dive in september. Dove with my uncle (logged 2000+ dives) and some Canadian special forces divers. it was strictly for fun but these guys are as fucked as they come.

(near) Peggys Cove, Halifax. Im on the left, my uncle is on the right

I dont dive enough. I really dont have any money or certified friends which are solid problems.

Ive also never been diving south of lake ontario. Not cold as fuck water must be heavenly

got certified last winter and went on a trip to the phillipines last spring break, my dads friend is a divemaster and has lived there for the last 15 years, saw some unreal shit including 6ft barracuda, 3 giant frogfish, whale sharks, tons of sea turtles and countless other stuff. also got down to 40 feet free diving with a computer.

It's amazing! I'm open water certified but I'd like to get more certs. Haven't dove in 2 years but my highlight was a two week marine bio course when I was 17... We did a bunch night dives, saw some sharks, turtles, manatees (!!), stingrays and amazing reefs. Such a fun thing to do. Also snorkeled through a bunch of mangrove swamps, and did some cave dives which were pretty awesome

belize is one of the coolest places on earth that I have ever been. we went to ambergris caye and it was fucking amazing. second largest barrier reef in the world, so the diving is simply stunning.

I can second this. I was short on money but got out snorkeling a few times and the reefs are just teeming with life. Even just diving down 5/10ft will put you right amongst the sea fans and coral and a lot of the fish don't seem to have a lot of fear. I think we checked out a private caye and laughingbird caye by day then went night snorkeling off of caye caulker. Didn't see as much by night but thats when the crustaceans feed and there were some bioluminescent squid.

Got into Cozumel this morning. Went out for a quick shore dive this afternoon, have about 9 dives in the next 3 days pretty pumped. But for now ill sip my beer and relax on the beach.

so im in honduras, i just did four tanks today starting at 8 this morning, i spent roughly 4 hours, all together, underwatert today getting some specialties down for my master scuba diver cert,

i saw a shark, a seahorse, someone getting chased by a morey eel, and lots of really cool formations.

Can't say I'm surprised people who enjoy one rich white person sport enjoy another rich white person sport.

Friend of mine works at a dive shop, been meaning to get my open water since he started working there a few years ago, been busy with other things. This summer perhaps.

nah, wasn't there long enough to make it out to the hole. it's about a 4 hour boat ride each way from what i understand and i was there less than a week. plus a hurricane had just gone through so the waters were still pretty chopped up.

also, how did you spend 4 hours underwater on only 4 tanks? where you diving in like 3 feet of water or what? lol seriously though, what certs are you getting?

Im heading to Utila for a week on the 12th, where are you diving from? Donno if you'll know, but do reservations seem necessary right now? There are so many shops, its the off season, not sure if we need to get reservations or if we'll be able to figure it out once we get there.

Thanks dude!

I'm certified as an adventure diver. Took a week long trip on a sail boat doing 3 to 4 dives a day 2 years ago, and just haven't had time to since:(

well u figure u can get roughly an hour of bottom time from a single tank, but its more like 45-55, so i dove four times in one day, so its like 20-30 short of 4 hours, i didnt dive them all back to back either, i dove 2 tanks in the morning and two tanks in the afternoon, im getting my master scuba diver cert, which requires about 4 dives for 5 different specialties, i chose enriched air, underwater photography, search and recovery, deep diver, and wreck diver.

im on roatan so i can speak from experience for utila, but here we dont need make reservations, unless u enjoy diving with an big group, as for me, i just rent tanks from the shop and shore dive if possible, sometimes its impossible becuase of iron shores or surf, but it never hurts to make reservation

to answer ur question im diving from fantasy island, its near french harbor, and we dont need reservations becuase like u said, its no longer peak season,

must be doing some pretty shallow dives.

just booked a trip to Cozumel at the end of March to dive for a week. Never been to Mexico, so I'm pretty stoked.

I used to go to amebergris caye every year. May favorite snorkeling was Hol-Chan, Shark Ray alley, and Mexico rocks. God those were good times. The culture there was amazing too.

not really, most of them are in 50-70ft range, why would u think theyre shallow? im not following ur logic, i have a hunch, but id like to hear it from u.

related; i just finished my master scuba diver course! literally got out of the water an hour ago. i got to penetrate a wreck today too. i penetrated so deep

because i've never seen a 3,000 lb tank last an hour at 70 feet...even with GREAT breathing. more like closer to 30 mins (ish) for most divers...45 mins with excellent control.

congrats on the certs though. have my wreck, deep, boat, rescue, etc. helps that my old man is an instructor.

quit trying to exhagerate all the figures i use, i said ROUGHLY an hour, and clearified its more like 40-50, and i said ANYWHERE between 50-70 ft of water, which doesnt mean that i said everyone, including myself, stay at the maximum depths/bottom times that i said (i.e. "70ft for an hour.") and we both know tht no one is spending their entire time at one depth, so really i think ur just arguing for the sake of arguing.

my dive profile isnt at 70ft consistently. ill max out at 70 feet, spend 10-15 min there, so like 900 psi, but maybe hover at 50 for the remainder or roughly20-25min so roughly 1500 pounds, , and spend probably 10 minutes in 30ft or around there, so like another, say; 500, and 3 minute at 15 which is negligable. and im tired of doing the math, and i end with ABOUT 1000 pounds everytime. idk how u dive, but thats pretty common for me.

DISCLAIMER; these numbers are very rough, actual results may vary, idgaf, im not u, ur not me, get over it and except that i am a diver, and i know wut im doing, despite ur consistent negging.

just got back from cozumel, most of my dives maxed at 85ft, with about 30 minutes spent around 50-60 ft. all were over 50 minutes. had about 1000 psi coming up

but anyways, I think you just posted you've never been and booked for later this year. I just back back from scuba club cozumel. all inclusive dive place, 2 am boat dives each day and unlimited shore dives. great place, would definitely recommend (and pretty cheap, 650 for 4 nights 5 days without flight, thats the expensive part; booze wasn't included but beers were about 2.75, not too bad).

here's one of the better pictures I snapped of a passing sea turtle at 71 ft. was literally 3 feet away from her.

if you have any questions lemme know. I'll post more pictures later.
