Today, the major leagues set a strike date for August 30th. If an agreement is not made before then, baseball will strike. I say screw them. Im tired of players complaining they dont get enough money. The minimum is half a million dollars a year. Anyone else in the world would be happy with that money. To hell with the major leagues. Im gonna go watch the little league world series.

What are they fighting for, the league wants a salary cap? Shit they were lucky to recover from the first strike. Always when the reds have a chance... they strike, damn.

no physical fitness, what are you talking about? The only people that aren't in shape are sometimes first basemen and DH hitters. Do you know how much you condition for baseball. I remember when I played it was ridiculous. Especially in tryouts we were tested on speed every year. Takes more fitness than skiing does. Compare the amount of players who condition and weight train to newschoolers doing the same hitting the park.

 
I'm preferring to ignore this all and hope they work it out before a strike. I don't know how I'll feel if august 29th is the last day of the season.

Yes I agree, I always have loved watching college sports above all. I'm having such conflicts w/ going to college in the south, go Ohio State... err I'm a vanderbilt student... oh fuck it go buckeyes!

 
you have to admit compared to other sports baseball isn't as phyicly demanding, there is a lot of just standing around

It isn't the best spectator sports, but I'm sure you can talk to all the pitchers who've blown their arm out and about 75% of them would tell you that they should have trained better.

 
baseball is really physically demanding. my mom is the team dentist for a single A team and we had the team over for a bbq and all the players were extremely fit. now i know the team wasnt in the major leages and all but if you dont count the signing bounus (to A's) they are all making 850 (can) a month. so i think they should spred a bit of the money around

for the record... minimum is 33k a year. average is 300k a year. the only thing they aren't agreed on is the league wants teams with over 102 million salary per year to pay a tax for the money over 102 million. Everything else has been agreed on. so quit you're whining, cause they won't strike.

i know it sucks and im pissed and i hate the greed of the players and the owners, but i like baseball too much to let it go. sadly they could do anything to the majors and as long as there were still red sox/yankees games id be there yelling 'nomahhhh!'

You don't NEED to be in shape to play, you don't NEED to be in shape to play any sport. But if you're going to be successful competitively then you're going to be in shape. Look at griffey, he's been hurt all season and why? It's because he doesn't train at all in the off season and 'gets in shape' a month before the season starts. Now everytime he gets healthy his osteoperosis kicks in and he's out for another 3-6 weeks. Just cause you hate baseball doesn't mean you should disregard the hard work a lot of professionals and collegiate and even highschool athletes have put into their game and body. I think speed skating is gay as hell to watch, you don't need to be in shape to do that either but those guys work real hard.

Try playing a game of rugby or soccer for that same period of time, there is pretty much no time to take a rest, its constant running using every muscle in your body, wow running from one base to another which happens only like a couple or no times for a player out on the field, standing in the outfield and catching a ball and throwing ti back which takes less than 5 secs doesn't take to much energy, Seriosly you can't say it a physicaly demanding sport

Jesus christ everyone is missing the point. The actual action of playing isn't as demanding, but to be a pro or collegiate athlete you have to be in good physical shape! You have to compete w/ others for your position on your team, and you need everything possible to have the edge on the other person vieing for your position. You need to be in good physical shape to avoid injury, impress your coaches, and maintain a physical edge over the same person trying to get your position. Just because the physical requirements during play are different doesn't make baseball players less of athletes or not as in shape.

Let's look at this a little differently. What's the most important part in a soccer game. Endurance and physical stamina. Therefore you do a lot of cardiovascular training. What is the important physical aspect of baseball? Strength and quick speed. Therefore baseball players weight train a lot of there upper body, and pitchers there lower body (because a lot of the power comes from their legs), and they run gasers.

By your definition the greatest athletes on the planet are marathon runners because they can last the longest under cardiovascular stress.

baseball is more of a mental game than a physical game. You dont understand how much can go wrong if you arent thinking. Its like if you are driving, if you dont look for cars you will probly get hit. But, need to be some shape to play at any level more than little league.

i think the whole idea of a strike is ridiculous. all of the guys in the major leagues are so stuck up their own asses they can't see that they're living that i'm sure any guy would love to have. they're playing a sport that they love for money--not to mention the millions of dollars that they make a year, they can get booty from just about any girl anytime they want, and almost everytime they come to the plate, thousands of fans are screaming their name. is there something that i'm missing? hell, i just one guy to scream my name. lol.

This can sum up the state of baseball right now in 1 sentence:

Baseball is not a sport anymore, it's a fucking business.

Its no longer a game people look forward to playing. Baseball would be a lot better off if the players would stop worrying(sp?) how many millions they are making and start worrying about being ready for there next game. Teams management should stop trading like crazy just so their winning % goes up .010 and start getting there current players better. As for now, I can no longer watch baseball, b/c its basically like watching the stock market, money and numbers, not america's favorite pastime.

Its both parties' fault. The players dont give a shit if the fans come to games as long as they get paid and the owners dont give a shit if the players play because it means more money for them. The whole system is screwed.

i could care less about baseball. I would rather watch golf. Im sure they work out and stuff a lot but wht pro sport dont yu have to do that in? I dont see how you can compare playing soccer when you are running around and you never get a break for a long time to baseball when you jog to the outfield stand there watching the game and then one a ball comes to you and you run pick it up and throw it really far so you can go back to the dugout and sit down in the shade till you go up and get struck out so you walk back and sit back down.

i know that alota ya r pissed about this strike, and even tho i dont play/watch baseball anymore it bugs the hell out of me 2. their motive of thinking is that they know that they can get paid more so why not try for it

That's what I was talking about, you can't compare the work during the actual game, the training for baseball is different because of the demands of baseball. And soccer training is of a different nature because of the demands of the soccer game.
