School Movie Project

So I've been taking film classes at my college. This quarter I'm in the advanced class and for one of my projects I am filming a parkour edit with a kid in the class who is very talented with my gopro hero 4. Hopefully I am also filming a mountain bike edit for my other friend also with the gopro. I am also working on a school project and I will be using both our Black Magic Cinema camera and our 5D mk3. I might be taking the class next quarter and I have to make one big project. I am thinking about making a short mountain bike film with a couple of very talented riders my friend knows and rides with. For this caliber of film I want to use a better camera then a Gopro. Should I use the 5D or the black Magic? any advice is helpful.

Overall the Blackmagic will have better quality, especially the dynamic range, but a more intensive workflow because it records in raw or prores which requires you to have a decently powerful computer and is more work to colour correct. If done right however, will yield a more professional product. On the other hand, the Canon offers 720p at 60fps which could be useful if you want to slow some shots down.

Personaly id utilize the oppurtunity to use the black magic, that cameras beautiful and produces similarly beautiful footage, but like that guy said^, its a much more demanding workflow to edit raw footage. But, if youve got a computer that can handle it, id definitely go with the black magic

Black magic all the way! One of the best cams out there for indie film makers. Also then global shutter will work wonders for your quick movements of the cam.

^^If his school has a BMCC then they should have a computer to handle it. With that said, give the BMCC a try who knows when you'll get to use one again outside of school.

Yeah the only downfall of the bm is that it only shoots 30fps.. at 2.7k.. So we couldn't do that great of slow mo.. but other than that I think it would look good
