School me on buttering

Okay so I've been trying to learn butters and nose presses this year but i keep ejecting. I weigh 160 and my din is set at a 9. I ride SFB's from 4 years ago. Tell me how to stop sucking at skiing and what i need to do without maxing my dins and destroying my knees.

if you just wanted to nose press on flat I learned by grabbing both my tips and leaning forward until I fell over. While I did look like a retard it helped me feel out the flex of my skis. I used to pop out a lot because I tried to rise up and forward (which brought my heel up in my boot), but you really have to press the back of your heel into your boot and focus moving your weight lower and forward instead.

Not sure if that made a sliver of sense... just keep trying things and see what doesn't make you pop out.

Could this cause issues with other skiing though? i really don't need knee surgery

You'll be fine although 9 should be around the right din if you're a type 2-3 skier. If you are doing the butters correctly, you should not be ejecting. Crank em up to 9.5 and see if they still eject on flat ground butters, then go up by 0.5 if they do

idk, i used to just practice doing "tripod butters" (one arm down for support) or "snail butters" (both arms down and touching the snow while sliding.

however, since ive been on the billy goats my buttering days have come to an abrupt halt. Its mad fun to do like snail butter hand plant thingies if your on some softer sticks

at first, I would just try doing 180, with an immediate sw 180 afterward on rollers and knuckles and stuff. once you get comfortable doing this, start trying to put a little weight on your noses and try to bounce off them a bit. go faster and try to get some air for the sw 1 aspect, then try to go around another half to sw.

dont matter if they aren't super pressed in the beginning, its pretty scary and it takes some getting used to. Good luck!

DIN is meaningless if your forward pressure is not set correctly. Go to a shop get that fixed then try again.
.

What he said^^^. I’ll put money down your forward pressure is off

Third for forward pressure, my DIN is on 9.5, but it took me fixing my forward pressure to stop ejecting on butters. I'm also 6'1 and about 185 lbs.

Go to a shop and fix your forward pressure.

4th on the forward pressure haha. I weigh 165 lbs and my dins are set at 7.5/8. I snapped my ski the other day buttering so din really has nothing to do with it
