well i was looking into buying a canon 20d off of craiglist for 350 but i have found out that it is a scam so now i need to look for a new dslr. I dont want to pay to much so right now im thinkin about the canon rebel xt, or the nikon d50

but i would also like to hear what you guys have to say

The D50 is a great camera if your not really into shooting sequences. If you want to shoot nice sequences I would look for a camera with a higher fps. Some of my friends have the rebel, and I just don't like the way the body feels in my hand, but the quality of the pictures are great.

k well im not sure if i would be shootin many squences at all so wat camera should i buy

right now im lookin at a d50 with the 18-55mm kit lens for around $380. good deal or not?

i would go with the d70 but then again im more into film. so if you can i would get something like a canon elan 7 or something along those lines. or i would get an xt or xti as there both good cameras

xti's feel like a joke when you hold them. I have a D70s and its bomb. I love it. The number 50 is lower than 70, and therefore it is a less quality camera.

nikon d40 is 499 at best buy (body and 18-55 lens), and 599 for a package with the 55-200 lens, thats not overly expensive

I'm going to have a disagree with you there Connor. The d70 was nikon's competitor camera to the original rebel, not the rebel xt, xti or xsi. And the technology is a bit old. Something like the xsi brings upper class sensors to the rebel series, but again it depends on your pricing range:

Read up lots and enjoy, doing a lot of research before your purchase is a big thing, but it will all be worth it when you finally get your camera.

dr review in general, is a great source of information, and its a great starting point to learn about each individual camera's characteristics, and abilities

dude, they don't even make d50 or d70s anymore, so good luck finding them. right now you are looking at either a d40 or a d60. look those up.

i still think u should get the xti or xsi cause on the nikon u have to go throught menus to do some changes but on the canon its on the body fo easy changes

^^ u can get a new xti wit one lens for pretty cheap like under 800 or try costco u get the xti and two IS lens the kit ones and a bag and a card for i think 1000 more or less

it'd be nice if i could say dope buy the kit lenses and just buy the body, but unfortunately for most beginners they are of good use for the first month but after that they get a bit tiresome

even thats out of my price range. i want to get a fairly decent used body for really cheap so i can have extra cash for lenses

If only I had a functioning d50, I would sell it to you cheap right now. unfortunately some ass smashed it and the control wheel doesn't work anymore.

if you get a nikon i have a lense I can sell you though.

this lens does not come cheap, if fact retail it cost more than the camera body you are most likely going to get, i would suggest getting sigma lenses, because really you dont need L lenses to start off and sigma lens are much better bang for your buck.

jpmoffat: do you mean the xsi, i have not heard of the xs

sorry i misunderstood, thats a very sexy lens then, i would say xti, i have 4 friends that have the camera and they all love it, you can get it used for around 700 maybe cheaper, my advice for lenses would be sigma, i have the 70-300 mm F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO and it does wonders, look through my flickr photos to see some of the really up close shots (macros). I got it for 300 and i use it for sports photography and a carry around lens as it is so versitile, i must also suggest either the f1.4 or f1.8 50mm for a canon camera these lens are dirt cheap and by far the best first lens out there. if you know anything about the photography term "bokeh" these lenses produce great bokeh effects. Just my two cents, if you have any further questions feel free to ask.

look through my flickr photos if you would like to see some of the work i have done, all through my rebel xt

dude those r so dope. ok well im just waiting cause some guy i know might might have somthing that i can get mad cheap

I like the cannon eos "x" series

used an XT, XTI, and XSI extensively.

the Xt and XTI are very similar... i didn't notice enough to make a huge difference.

but the XSI was f"""""ing amazing.

HUGE step up.

worth every F""""ing penny

tehy dont make wither anymore so u should be able to get one for cheap and on www.costco.com they have a canon 40d + a mem card for like 948 or around check it out the 40d it good
