Save cypress mountain terrain park!

Hey NS,

My local ski hill Cypress Mountain has decided to not include a park this year, without telling anyone who has bought a pass so far. While the park was small, it had great flow and always a steady amount of riders.

I am so outraged at this I feel the need to refund my pass, but I do really enjoy the mountain.

So before I get my pass refunded I would like to see if NS has the power to convince management to rethink there decision, so many skiers at cypress can still enjoy the mountain.

If you would take a couple minutes and shoot an email to contact@cypressmountain.com and explain how skiing today is not what it was 20 years ago, and that newschool skiing requires some rails and jumps.

Post back in the thread if you have done so and i will GLADLY give you full +K.

Here is a video all shot at cypress park last year.

(Skiing starts at 1:20)

No offense since Cypress has a fun little park and all, but they are stupid over priced. Just go to Grouse or Seymour, unless you live in West Van I'm sure either of those are closer anyways.

Cypress's pass was actually the cheapest of all the locals this year.

180$ for a youth, and an option of a 100$ add on to ski seymour when cypress is closed for the Olympics.

I make the trip from delta so all the locals are the same distance from me.

yeah i asked a cypress person about this. they said since the usally get a park up in mid jan, and they close early feb to march, hiring park crew for two weeks is pointless. and apparently the snow in march isnt good enough to make a park from scratch, which sound kinda stupid.

done. my home mountain is a small one with racer tendencies and an unsurprisingly small park. i feel for you so im helping.

so they offerd the 100$ seymour add-on.

It was the best option for me as i am a grouse hater, but looks like now i have no choice.

I really never enjoyed Cypress to the same extent as Seymour or Grouse, but I feel your pain and I'll definitely try to help. They should at least have told people that there wouldn't be a park this year. Kind of shady.

They told me they were gonna have one either after or before the Olympics I forget... Anyways I ended up buying a pass to Grouse because of this and it's a real shame because there park was always fun and the park staff did a real good job with updating it and fixing things up. And I'm really gonna miss being able to lap the park all day without waiting more than 5 minutes for a chair...

I just called them to get the scoop officially:

They are not sure if they are going to build a park or not, but the guy said he "doubted it will get built, due to the Olympics and all the things going on with them this year."

I tried to get my pass refunded so I could ski Seymour or Grouse, but he told me they are non-refundable, even though they have been advertising a terrain park on their website for the past couple months.

I even offered to find someone older than me (I'm 18 bought my pass for $180) to transfer my pass to. That way Cypress would actually be making money because the individual would pay an extra $100 or so to turn my pass into an adult pass. But the homie said they were non-transferable.

What the fuck, Cypress...

friend request sent. ill write on their wall once they accept.
id also like to add that that edit had an awesome vibe and also the park that they have is a ton better than what i have at my home mountain. it'd be a shame to lose it.

I emailed. Man i like their little park set up last year. Also suck they will have olympic blackouts but thats understandable i guess.

I've been messaging Cypress for a while now and i created a facebook group if you wanted to join. There have been quite a few posts to their wall as well as i have 140+ and counting backing me up in the group. Join the Group and send me a friend request and we can discuss straegies in approaching cypress. Take it easy

Cypress never has and never will consider your opinion because cypress has no respect for its own pass holders.
You are talking about the mountain who didnt maintain their pipe last year is because they want to keep the pipe groomer fresh so they can probably sell it after the olympics and demolish their new and perfectly good superpipe.
personally last year the park was fun and park crew were friendly and hardworking, but it seems they cant build anything big because ownership and higher management doesnt want the liability that comes with features like that.
In my opinion (and im sure im not alone) until the owners and management of cypress get their act together in many areas, not just the park... (customer service??) or get replaced all together. Nothing will change for the better. Its a shame because that mountain has a lot of potential to be really really fun. But its run by an seemingly inept group of clueless people.

well considering my home mountain Crystal Mountain, is owned/ or Cypress used to be owned by boyne resorts i'm totally backing you up since they refuse to put a park into one of the best inbound backcountry resorts in the PNW. making every excuse possible and don't give a crap about what there passholders have to say. its sad and plain not right. hope all goes well for you guys.

thats degression of the sport! the big movement is to build parks, every resort has from here to god knows where has one and is adding to it. it's a really stupid idea and is only gonna hurt them later, espically since it doesnt look like a huge mountain. good luck man, dont give up the fight

The only reason they are not having a park this year is because they are one of the host mountains for the olympics, and their going to be busy with that or something.
Shoulda bought a y2play...

cypress sucks, just go to grouse or somthing i live in west van and thats where i go, but i did get a y2play and its a lot cheaper

I just sent them a nasty-gram.... How can they do this when they are holding superpipe there during the olympics.....

that mountain looked huge! even the hills here on EC that are a tenth of that size have a nice park. shitty deal. email sent.

get over it cypress always has sucked i rode that place for one season when i was 10 and knew it sucked then go somewhere else your not fucked just refund your pass and buy another on jeez stop crying their park has never been any good anyways in hind sight your a whiner dont come to seymour

Fuck off man. They won't refund passes. We're not crying we're trying to get help to change the mind of the administration so that they support park skiing and the mindset behind it.

meh not worth it to ride cypress for a park.. get a grouse or seymour pass but both are gonna be madd busy this year cuase all the cypress people are gonna go to seymour when cypress is closed and grouse is always a mess with their lines

basically u should just get a whis pass cuase its gonna be the best other than the 2 weeks of the olympics

i have the exact same problem at my mountain. people just dont understand that park is the way to go and racing is the past, if they just invest some money in the park there will be a bigger pay off in the end!!!! i will join the group cause i know how it feels my local mountain closed the park and are done, so now i must drive another 40 minutes to get to the nearest hill (it takes 1h to get there)

.

im trying to tell you me and friends tried this already like 8 years ago they dont care they never will they are super anal not only about park but about everything im sorry i sounded harsh but if you dont know by now cypress is a joke then you never will

Word. I'm just trying to do what I can since they won't refund my pass. Next year Seymour for sure...

cypress's setup was pretty fun last year, and as stated above the parks crew was pretty easy going and friendly, and grouse did raise their prices this year so they are practiacally the same as cypress's prices, and a pass at cypress for the 09/10 season is cheaper...noting they will be closed for almost a month during the olympics, but as we all see i think that if we all just keep pushing and posting/sending e-mails or whatever eventually their management will give in and build us a park even if its a small thing with just a few jumps and jibs its better than having nothing, we just have to show them how much support there is for a park at cypress.

Well now that i think about it there is a bit a sense in why there is no park at Cypress. I had forgotten that they will be busy this year with the Olympics. Although with this said, that does not in any way excuse them from commiting to the people who keep the mountain running. Its basically comes down to respect, if Cypress respects its skiiers then they will do the right thing(build and maintain a park), if not, well you get my point.

i first heard about this from a friend of mine that skis there from time to time. he emailed them with the same complaint about the park. sorry about it man really does suck from what i have heard

I don't know man, advertising a park and then not having it? I bet if you bitch enough and actually talk to someone in charge you could force a refund... Either way it sucks. I feel for you, I live in the midwest and have to fight each year for a somewhat decent park. But anyways I did send that email for you as well, hope it helps...

Just got an email from them:

"We

are pleased to announce that with the early snow fall and the mountain

opening almost 1 month early (which is the 3rd earliest opening in

Cypress' history) combined with the overwhelming Guest response,

Cypress Mountain has decided to open a terrain park for the 2009-2010

Winter Season."

Good work NS!!!

This is the message I got from theM.Hi Josh, thank you for contacting Cypress Mountain! Regarding our Terrain Park this year; it is still here, but closed to the public since we were chosen to support 2010 Olympics. Seymour Mountain does also have a terrific Terrain Park as well which is fully functional for the 09’-10’ season. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to call us. Best regards, Cypress Mountain

feel your pain man..my home mountain park was sick a few years back..and it just has been going down hill evry year after that
