SAVE BIG SKY PARK!

Well, at this time there is still no definite answer. I talked to both Tyrel and Miah earlier this week and their has been no final decision on the situation with the park. Mike (mtn manager) is away on vacation and they are wait for him to get back till more info can be discussed.

As of now, 3 park crew employees are being let go. They are working on getting a Cat driver. The park is planned on being moved to Swifty. No halfpipe, no Ambush. There has been speculation and talk about moving to SoCo which would be ideal for a park! Like I said, nothing final has been decided on so don't make your decision for a season pass based on these words. Tyrel is still fighting for SoCo and jumps.

On another note, I find it very interesting what Big Sky and their representatives are doing with this situation. I mean look at Moonlight. They are going through foreclosure, yet still supplying their park with $$$ (cutting trees for jumps, new rails....).

If anyone feels like voicing their opinion to Big Sky, please email Dax Schieffer at: dschieffer@bigskyresort.com

be professional but speak your mind.

It sounds like theres no more ambush park, or snowblowing going on this year. I pulled this from the big sky website under the terrain parks tab and its sounds like the parks gonna be in swifty and they are just gonna push snow for jumps instead of blowing snow. Heres the copy pasted update

So

after a long summer of silence, we're sure you're all waiting with

bated breath to hear from your neighborhood park crew. The rumor mill

has been working overtime so here's the skinny.

We

are still going to have a park. It is still going to be fun and we are

still excited about the upcoming season. There are some cards that are

still up in the air but, just like reading rainbow, we'll spell it out

for you. We'll be heading up the mountain in the next few weeks to

polish up all the rails from last year and with a little luck and some

elbow grease we'll be adding a few more to the fleet. We're going to

try to have a little something open for you all as soon as the mountain

opens and as for the rest of the season, we'll be adding stuff as the

season goes on.

As

ever, Swifty Park will still be beckoning to all those souls circling

above on the chair, with some rails to start with and some jumps as we

get more of nature's building blocks or snow to the layperson.

For

those not quite ready to take the Swifty Park plunge we'll have a

beginner park laden with features on which one can cut one's

metaphorical teeth. So that being said we can't wait to see all of

you, so be sure to watch up on the new videos, memorize some new rail

dancing maneuvers and color coordinate your kit like your Rachel Ray.

xoxo

Park Crew

are there gonna be bigger jumps in swifty then? or is 10 to 15 footers as good as it gets.

they might be a little bigger is what I heard, but not as big as the first jump in Ambush

FML. so much for getting better at jumps this year. are we at least gonna get the bigger rails over there? the dub kink and stuff?

it sounds like in the post that the park crew made they are going to set up all the rails (see the part where it says polishing off all the old rails and such) as well as maybe get some more. But this will most likely be an old lift tower again and who knows, the rails might just sit the whole season like the rainbow did this past season

yeah. i just know they used to have some weird rules with insurance as to how big the rails could be in swifty

werd. anyone know what moonlight is doing with jumps? ive heard rumors of bigger/snowmaking, but with them getting foreclosed i kinda doubt it

soco never has very much snow, as it is southern facing. I highly doubt there would be enough snow to make any jumps of a decent size. its also beginner area so I don't think they would want to mix park monkeys with little kids learnig to ski. It's good they cut 3 of the park crew, all they do all day is ride and smoke herb anyway. Not enough people ride the parks at big sky to really warrant a large daytime crew

. Yeah put that fookin rainbow in this year and don't let it just sit there all year again. basically they need to pull their head out their ass

To my surprise, Moonlight has made a very smart decision this coming season. They are actually in the process of cutting down trees and pushing dirt (check out the Zero Gravity Terrain Park facebook page). So yes, they are building jumps this year. Moonlight is putting a good amount of $$ into the park even through the foreclosure.

hahaha i love that they can spend money on a park, but big sky cant. however im sure things like that zip line will still be running....

Big sky should have a spot on the run down to swifty roped off along the trees with maybe like 3 rails or boxes and then make the last part of the run below swifty park have maybe 3 nice larger jumbs and have the other skiers go the other way around to the cat walk. I guss if moonlights park is stepping it up this year and if big sky does a poor job they will see a serious decline in park customers.

Yah I was talking to some guy at Zumiez(sp) today and he was telling me the same thing. That moonlight is pimpin their park out but supposedly wont have any decent jumps, which is kinda lame IMO because medium tables are super fun...Hopefully Big Sky can build at least one or two this year

I don't know how big sky could have any large jumps unless they build them outside of swifty. Or they could be like Moonlight last year and have people hitting their jumps and tapping peoples bases that are riding the lift above the jump.

That's true I don't really know the layout of Big Sky that much since I have only been there once. But the place they had them last year seemed like a pretty sweet spot or is that the place they are getting rid of? And I remember they have some little 5-10ft jumps on another run but nothing you couldn't get any decent tricks off of or even attempt to learn anything more than a 5.

they got bigger as teh year went on. im pretty sure 1 or 2 were pushing 15 feet by then end of the year, and they were pretty kicky.

swifty jumps sucked they were fun to fuck around on but nothing cool by any means and the run the descent jumps were on is whats gone this year hopefully moonlight builds something descent they really need to learn to build some jumps over there

i still dont understand why they cant just push jumps in like february when we have enough natural snow. sure thats late, but better late than never.

cause bigsky dont give a fuck about the park or what the park skiers want they make no money of us season pass holders its all about the tourism and having fresh groomers fuck em im goin to moonlight!

im still doing a big sky pass. i spent most of my time in swifty anyways, and im not sacrificing all the other dope terrain big sky has just for some jumps.

lol same, being from chicago.

ill probably do a few days at moonlight, but not enough for it to be worth the combo pass

ha no I am getting a pass to big sky...was just saying that I didnt shred swifty cause I have only been to Big Sky once

But I will probably get a couple days in at Bridger on a pow day since that seems like it's a requirement to go to MSU.

both... as much as i hate big sky for their lack of terrain parks, i can't give up the peak and dakota, shredhorn, etc. on those banger pow days

does moonlight do some sort of something along the lines of a frequent visitor discount card? although at 45 for a student im not sure thats necessary.

im also not prepared to switch to moonlight since i still have no CONFIRMATION they will have good jumps, its all been speculation so far. i dont see how they can justify spending on a park when they have no money

moonlight as of now and mike i heard word that DAKOTA will not be running this year that was another cut theyre making

gah damn, i reamin hopeful that big sky will snap out of this... but not opening dakota? that just plain sucks... i had some of the best days of the season over there, fuck ! at any rate, it sounds like a good bunch of shredders are going to convert to moonlight this year, so i'm pretty amped for that.

Wait is Dakota the one to the far left? and if so...NOOOO! That's the only lift I didn't get to ski and all the stuff it led to looked awesome...Gah so torn where to get a pass too.

^no mad dakota lift is on the south face you either take the tram or shedhorn to get to it, its where all the pow is
