Sarah Palin resigns

Sarah Palin has announced that she will resign as governor of Alaska and will not seek a second term.

CBS Affiliate KTVA reports that at a press conference this morning Palin said she will resign the governorship within a few weeks.

CBSNews.com producer Scott Conroy, who covered Palin's vice presidential campaign last year, confirmed through a source close to the governor said she is leaving office.

Earlier today, a holiday, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be making an announcement from her home in Wasilla.

Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners.

Palin said that power will be transferred to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell, who will be sworn in during the upcoming governor's picnic in Fairbanks.

She did not field questions, and would not give any indications about her future plans.
 
AHHHHHH I'm pretty sure she's doing this because she has higher aspirations like Senate or the Presidency. I would hate having her as my president god it would be aweful, I really hope that doesn't happen.

Then again maybe those letterman jokes hurt just a little to much and she's resign to have more time to deal with the pain that those jokes caused her and her family.
 
I hate her more than any other person in politics. What a waste of space I hope she goes away forever. I just can't se her appeal? How does anyone like that moron. Fuck her
 
Ya but he is gone now. I guess I hate Cheney as well. But I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when people defend her.
 
you have to admit, it's a brilliant political move. it frees her up to go visit other states to raise money for the republican party and gain political capital.
 
or she just dug her own grave... she will now be viewed as a quitter.. IMO.

not running for re election is one thing, quitting is a whole new ball o wax...
 
i hope to god that she runs for president, i really do. ill even vote for her in the primary, because there is absolutely no possible way whatsoever that she could get elected. none.
 
you're right; it will definitely be viewed that way by some people. it's a huge risk. i'd be surprised if it paid off.
 
yes, but the religious right alienates anyone whos not an ultraconservative nut case. its a lose lose, you either have a bunch of ultraconservative whackos that dont come out to vote in the first place if your too moderate, or if your super far right then you lose the moderate vote to the dems, or the dreaded third pary candidate.
 
There are just too many casual voters in this nation that just love everything about her.

Too many people like to vote for a person based on whether or not they'd like to have a beer with the person. Which is all good and dandy, but when I'm having a beer with the president and realize I'm smarter than him/her that's where we've got a problem.

 
even some of the more religious people realize how dumb she is though, idk i just feel like once she hit the spotlight, she would look so dumb that noone would vote for her except for the ultra religious psychos that are gonna vote for anyone with the republican party anyway. so you bring out a few more religious nuts, but lose a lot more moderates.

but seriously, there's definitely some ulterior motive for this resignment that she's not letting up yet, if at all. It's definitely not a run for president though. She knows just as well as anyone else that she has no chance at that. Maybe she finally realized she just wasn't cut out for the job.
 
Holy cow you are pompous.

It is sad to see how little respect and humility the majority of the responders have shown in this thread. Hardly any of you have the faintest clue what it means to be depended upon, have responsiblity or actually weigh things that affect other people's lives. I am by no means saying you have to like Sarah Palin, but it is sad how many people judge just for pride's sake.
 
No. Wrong. Its not like he is judging her by a normal person's standard. If she was just some mom working for the PTA, who cares. But she is GOVERNOR OF ALASKA. Therefore she gets judged by a different standard. Go figure. She is a complete airhead, knows nothing about foreign policy, has a completely distorted perspective on energy, has no respect for any other branch of government, she would govern exactly like president bush. It is complete bullshit that people pull this argument when people critique her obvious lack of knowlege on critical issues. Thats how you are supposed to judge a candidate, fair and square.
 
regardless of whether you agree with what hes doing, to imply that palin is even remotely close to as intelligent as he is is idiotic. she has proved many times to lack the fundamental knowledge necessary to run this country. i dont really care if im being "pompous", shes a moron, period.
