Having some troubles with my SD card fro my 60D. I got it back from a friend and it says "CARD CANNOT BE ACCESSED. REINSERT/CHANGE CARD OR FORMAT WITH CAMERA"

and it say's FORMAT FAILED when i do format it.

When i insert it into my laptop, it says Disk is unreadable by this computer.

Any troubleshooting would be great!

Card is a Sandisk Extreme 30mb/s SDHC 16GB class 10

Is the little slider thing on the side on "lock". and also does your friend have a pc and you have a mac? or vice versa?

go to disk utility

the sd disk should be listed on the side

click format/partition

MAKE SURE YOU ARE CHOOSING THE SD CARD AND NOT ANOTHER DRIVE. THE FOLLOWING WILL ERASE ALL DATA

format as free space

remove

insert into camera

format

should be fixed!

are you using Windows? if you're using Windows I have a potential fix that worked for me on a windows machine with a usb key doing something similar

ok, anyone having this problem on Windows then try this.

unplug everything usb

open notepad and copy this into it:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment]

"DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES"="1"

save the file as something, then change the extension from .txt to .reg

run this file, you'll get a warning but accept it

now in Control Panel open up Device Manager

under View select 'show hidden devices'

expand disk drives and you should see a list of all the disk drives that have been installed on your computer.

right-click and uninstall all usb and SD memory drives. the ones with transparent icons are the ones not currently being used

next go into universal serial bus controllers and uninstall everything with transparent icon

next in storage volumes and uninstall all ones with transparent icon.

now reboot computer. when I first did this I was told to reboot twice. so reboot again.

your usb key or flash card should now work

these are instructions I was given a couple years ago for this exact problem. worked for me on a Windows 7 machine.

Make sure your card reader/slot is clean. No joke, it might be that easy.

If not, the disk utility option will work.

Vistek is very, very legit. Take it back to them with the receipt, explain everything you just told us, and they should give you a new one.
