Sand in shift bindings

Went on a road trip this summer and skied a desert with my shift binding touring setup. Now the toes are having trouble locking into ski mode due to grit. Any tips for how to clean it out, ideally without taking the toepieces off the skis?

also yea it was dumb but i might not have a chance to ski a desert again and those were the only skis i had.

tl;dr sand in bindings, what do?

If you're good at doing this stuff, I would hit it with comressed air, wash it with water, let it dry, then grease it.

If you're not, take it to a shop it would be cheap compared to new bindings.

and whatever you do, get the toe din tested. (The shift toe operates like an alpine toe in alpine mode, so I believe it should be testable. But better to ask at a shop that deals with that binding)

Some good advice cheers. Haven’t even heard of din testing, would that just be to make sure the din screws are still working properly?

A din test uses a machine that pulls the boot off the binding in order to measure the amount of force required for release. That value should match the din setting of the binding or else you have a problem with the binding.
