Sand Dune Skiing

i am going camping this weekend at the sand dunes in colorado. has anyone had luck skiing on those things? i want to bring my skis, but want to know if y'all have any tips for making sliding easier. i'm hoping for something relatively easy to apply and inexpensive, but gimme what you got. i'm guessing sending it with naked skis won't be the answer.

i'll try to get video if it goes down and post it here.

There is a thread on this with comments from the TC guys. Probably use the google to find it.

ya i watched that episode and it looked like they didn't do anything to their skis for the final part. andy did something to his bases but i cannot tell what he put on the bottom and it looked like it didn't stay on too well.

^pretty sure they glued formica to their bases but it has been a while since I read into it. I think they were trying to use this method http://www.sandboard.com/drdune/makeasandboard/index.htm on their skis. I've been wanting to ski the dunes here in Oregon for years but I've never got around to trying it. My in-laws just take old straight skis when they go in CO. I'm not sure how well it works but I think there is booze involved and it sounds like they have fun.

yo so i ended up being able to ski pretty well down the long face of the dunes in colorado. the sand was kinda wet still from rain. i just used my 185 amplid c7's and after a few pushes with my poles i was on my way down.

i entered a photo of me skiing on the dune into that k2 contest as well. my entry is called "Hot Dogging Down a Sand Dune".

i highly recommend this to anyone near dunes. the sand behaved a lot like snow, and it felt homely to click in on top of a humongous pile of sand.
