Samyang 10mm APS-C lens announced. Tokina 11-16 substitute?

I doubt it will be worth it, but we'll see what sort of image it renders. The Tokina is really hard to beat.

Stoked on this, will be amazing for a GH3, special adapter required, if I switch to all nikon glass that is.

Ah, this interests me very much. Definitely won't be equal to the tokina (hell people spend more money than the lens is worth converting those things to PL - that glass is mint) but if it's a good price point it will definitely be a realistic substitute.

I love 35mm rokinon, might have to pick this up. Kinda wish it was something like 14mm though. I really like having a bit of play with my tokina

Cept the 14mm sucks, wack distortion pattern. IMO no crop wide can compete with the tokina, if I didn't know I was going to go full frame I 100% would own one.

I rather liked the 14mm Samyang when I had it. Yes, it has some pincushion distortion, but it's not really noticeable when filming anything else than straight lines (and no, lift cables don't count).

The biggest disadvantage is that it doesn't take filters, which sucks.

meh never liked samyang... their optics and build quality are sub par, not to mention the insane distortion from their lenses... have you ever seen the 14mm? imagine the 10mm!

It's generally about 400 dollars more than the Tokina, has way more distortion and is softer in the corners. I wouldn't say it's a competitor.

I've owned two Samyang lenses. First the 8.5mm fisheye for Nikon. Build quality was amazing, optics so-so. Now I own the 7.5mm fisheye for micro four thirds. Again, the build quality is phenomenal, and this time the optics as well. Comes pretty close to my Nikon 10.5mm f/2.8.

I really wouldn't say Samyang is sub par.

35mm 1.4, lrn2lens

Also maybe if your talking bang for buck or video; but the 35L is so god damn good for photography, dat bokeh!

I honestly wasn't very impressed with the 35L's bokeh. I rented it for 3 days and had a lot of fun shooting with it, but I wouldn't buy it I think. I'm really curious about the Sigma 35mm. The thing I disliked most about the Canon was the AF.

Just went through my pictures I took with the 35L (thank LR metadata filters) and am very pleased with the image it renders. The colors are nice and neutral I think, but it's definitely not the Samyang 35mm. I hope the Sigma will be sub-1000$ and has good AF. Would be sick.

Doesn't take filters, a lot of people seem to be suggesting half the price of the tokina though, so possibly around £200($300), although I'm not sure, that'd be an awesome price.

True, you could always make a DIY solution though, not sure how you'd make one for a circular filter but everything would be fine I think.

Just anounced!

Sigma 35mm f/1.4 is (only) 899$! Very surprised. I think this is going to be a winner. Canon can learn from this. Every lens they release i 80% more expensive than the older model...

Yeah, but I think the Sigma will be a superior lens.

The old Canon 35mm f/2 was like 300-350$? The new version is 800$... Seriously, what's up with that?

The best wide angle for the GH cameras is the Olympus 12mm f2. I would be very surprised if this can compete with that or the Tokina.

Pretty annoying

" anybody has been waiting for the new rectilinear Samyang 10mm/2.8 lens that was announced at Photokina 2012 and was supposed to come out in January, you will be disappointed.

This lens was on my potential to buy list (assuming reviews are ok). I contacted Samyang and they promptly replied that the lens has been delayed by about 8 months. Essentially that means it will be available at the end of summer/beginning of autumn"
