Salomon Shogun help

I just bought the Salomon Shogun boots a few weeks back, and have skied in them twice. Each time I have had immense shin pain, I know some of you are going to say "don't land backseat" but the thing is I actually didn't hit any jumps. I am almost thinking they are to much of a boot for me, I am 5'6'' maybe 110lbs. So it wouldn't be to my suprise that they are too much for me at 100 flex. I am also wondering if there is another boot that you guys would recommend for a lighter kid like myself. Also do you think anyone would trade full tilt's for these or is that to much of a long shot, since these are more of an all mountain boot, compared to a freestyle boot like the full tilts. Also Is there anything I can do to help the shin pain, like padding or cutting off circulation in my legs while ridding? Help me out NS

Are your Shogun boots the correct size? And do you have good footbeds in them? If you answer no to either of those you need to remedy that first. Simply getting a Full Tilt won't solve your shin bang problems because you can still get shin bang in them. It's a physics problem really- flexible foot allowed to move in a rigid structure. Any twisting type motion your leg goes through will result in shin bang. If you stop the twisting motion in your Shogun you will stop your shin bang and be able to enjoy your awesome boot.

Thanks, and yes to both of your first questions. I know that the full tilts wont solve my problems, I have just tried them on before and they feel like they move with my legs when I flex. Unlike my shogun's, where I meet the tounge then really have to push to flex. I love my shogun's but just don't know if they are the right boots for me.

There are two screws in the lower rear part of the upper cuff (not the canting bolts, but the smaller ones behind the canting bolts). Remove your liner and take them out (the screws and the t-nuts they thread into). This will make the boot more flexible for sure and it will move with your leg more consistently.

^If you have the plugs use them, but you can leave them empty. I might throw some duct tape on the inside of the shell though. I haven't heard of anyone getting soaked for leaving them open.

If you liked the way the FT liner wrapped your leg, you could always but a FT liner and put it in the Shogun. For sure cheaper than buying a new boot and it will work really well.

Well I wear a size 10 shoe which is a 28.0 mondo but I bought a 27.5. My toes aren't close to the end, and when I put on just the liner I can only fit my index finge inbetween my heel and the back of the liner

That sounds to me like they are at least one size too big? I have never had that much room in a ski boot, but I might be wrong..

i just got the shoguns a few weeks back also had that same problem..i took out the screws..and also since its 2 buckles i kept the top one tighter to keep tongue in place..and bottom one looser..then also what you can do if you still need some help is get what some eliminators..(look them up, but most every shop will have them or something exactly like them) what they are is a cushiony pad the you stick to your tongue of the boot and it keeps your shin more in place, and softens it a little to lessen the pressure from leaning on your shins...also since there new they might need to be broken in since mine did and now i dont need eliminators..id say try those things see what works..they should pack out a little to give it a more true to the foot fit and then your foot might sit differently so it isnt as pressed against the boot.
hope this helped good luck

Typically, a size 10 foot belongs in a 27/27.5, which is a 9/9.5 boot. But what you describe sounds pretty big... Take out the liner, put your foot in the shell, and slide your foot so your big toe just touches the front. While your toe is just touching the front, you should be able to get about two fingers (3/4 to 1 inch max) between your heel and the back of the shell. If you have more than that, the boot is more than likely too big.

thanks a lot, +k.

And to onenerdykid, I said a few comments above that I can only fit 1 finger between my heel and the back of the liner.

you should not have any room to fit a finger in the liner. Your toes should be right at the front of the liner, and have about a 1-2 finger fit in the shell. There is no finger fitting in liners. The liner packs out. From fitting experience, most people who wear a size 10 shoe measure a 9 foot, which usually means a perfect fit in a size 8 boot.
For those who downsize, a tight 1 finger fit is more appropriate. For example,a foot that wears a 10.5/11 shoe would be in a size 8.5 boot. (mondo 26/26.5)

Ouch, and there it is. I wear a size 12.5 shoe that fits fine, and I ski in 28.0/28.5 Sollys. You should drop down two sizes on that chart in general. Also, if you're footbeds don't have much arch then your feet could be sliding forward. Is the shin bang upper or lower?
