Salomon Shift Pro 110 vs K2 Mindbender 115

Hey Y'all

Getting a new BC setup and debating between the Salomon Shift Pro in 110 and the K2 Mindbender 115. I've heard a few horror stories about K2 boots snapping or breaking after a year or so, so I'm wondering if people have opinions and experience with such things or either of the boots in general. I get a pretty good discount on these brands so only really wanting to get something from either Salomon or K2 but if you have any other advice or knowledge I would definitely appreciate it. Womens boot btw.

Thanks :))

I’ve never ridden the shifts so this is kinda invalid, but the mindbenders were a sick boot while I had them. I sold them after a year because I was still growing but they are sick boots. I know you are prolly gonna get either the shifts or mindbenders, but I think the best bc boots are Scarpa. They are pricey but they are perfect for my foot and light.

Thanks for posting those old images again haha. But yeah we did have some breaks on older boots. But the new boa boots are really good. The mb 115 boa with the boa liner will be a rad set up for sure if you want a boot you can walk in but still ski as hard as any alpine boot.

The Shift boots have an odd heel pocket, I've had to grind the two nubs down for several customers. If you take the liner out and look into the heel pocket you'd see what I'm talking about. These customers all came in with nasty blisters on the back of the heels, the boot otherwise did fit them quite well. They are also very low volume in the instep area, which may or may not work well for your specific needs.

I have some Mindbender 130s, the 98mm version and they are quite nice. The newer boots have an improved walkmode lever, mine does not have the locking latch. I also ski in the Dalbello Lupo, although I find myself using the MB more, I much prefer not having to mess around with the removeable tongue on the Lupo.

You should really try these boots on, they are quite different imo, chances are if one works for you, the other will not.

depends on what fits really. Shift Pro's ski down really well, but the fit is kinda iffy for a lot of people (weird heel, narrow last, forefoot cuts weird). Walk mode also isn't anything to write home about for a 50/50 boot.

Mindbenders, imo, are pretty fantastic and fit a lot wider than the stated last. This is probably because K2 did this crazy thing where the last's on mindbenders actually resemble human feet. Definitely better on the uphill, will likely be a touch softer.

Go with what fits, honestly if you're looking at the shifts a tecnica cochise would be worth a go, they have really solid uphill and downhill performance. You could also go zero g tour pro if you want something lighter from Tec

Try out the Atomic hawx ultra xtd 120. They are made of a lighter plastic so it would be a good idea to choose a higher flex. ie the 120 instead of 110. I have the 130 and they are baller. No complaints except for this: If you use them with shift bindings they will get utterly fucked. Idk why It happens but mine got munched.

BEWARE do not get the K2s unless you have a WIDE foot.

Because of the new BOA, they try to market the last as being a crazy range of 97-103 or something. I tried them on in store and the rep told me I can just crank the BOA to get them to fit. Never felt a less snug fit, and I don't even have a narrow foot (99 so medium last).

I've never seen so many boots listed on FB Marketplace as the mindbender so this obviously happens to a lot of people. I think the boots are probably great if you have a wide foot, but otherwise I would stay away.

Mindbender use our Mid volume fit. The last range is 97-100mm. If you need to crank these to get them snug you need an LV boot, which we have coming for you in January :)

But if the mid volume works then for your foot you will enjoy the boots hopefully. They are the number freeride boot for a reason.
