Everyone that sails respond to this thread. I think it would be cool we could all have a giant party or even just meet at one of the bigger regattas this summer. Just list your Yacht Club or School you sail with, what boat(s) you sail, and some bigger regattas you will be attending (plus anything else you want to add. Here's my info:

Chicago Yacht Club

Laser, 420, 29er, and V-15

BBR, Laser NAs, 420 NAs, CORK, and maybe Bemis or Smythe (If I qualify)

yay! I sail @ the Mallet's Bay Boat Club and occasionally I'll do a race @ the Shelburne Yacht Club.

Both are on Lake Champlain (between VT and NY) and I'm in Burlington. I sail J-29s and Lasers.

the boat is technically a sword fishing boat, but since it was built in 97 and made mainly for giving tours, it only looks like an old sword fishin boat...and yes, gloucester is where the perfect storm was based out of, im friends with the guys that owns the boat that was used as the andria gail (or however you spell it)...he got a nice hefty check and a new paint job out of the movie

HIGH NORTH SESSION 2!!!

I used to race Bytes and Lasers, did a regatta in a Laser 2 for shits and giggles once. I did all the big regattas in the north east, that was about it though. I'm teaching sailing now. The club ive been at has a club house that is 20'x20', and its on a steep hill jsut above the water, it wasnt level so we leveled it out, and now that theres no incline in the roof, whenever it rains it leaks. theres no plumbing or electricity and its the greatest sailing club in the world.

Agamenticus Yacht Club; York Harbor, Maine

J-22s, 420s, Jy-15s, and Lasers

Sahid: I know how it is

if you dont mind me asking, how did so many people get into competitive sailing? maybe it is just where im from (southern wi near lake michigan) but i never heard of people our age doing that. isnt it kind of expensive? i dont want to step on any toes, im just curious about a sport i dont know much about.

i took got my training at the local yacht club

not expensive at all

you can hook up a lazer for pretty cheap

i paid nothing for mine but had to buy a new sail and a few parts. got the sail cheap too.

THE POWER IS YOURS

Our world is in peril. Gaia, the Spirit of the Earth, can no longer stand the terrible destruction plagueing our planet. She sends five magic rings to five special young people: Kwame, from Africa, with the power of Earth. From North America, Wheeler, with the power of Fire. From Eastern Europe, Linka, with the power of Wind. From Asia, Gi, with the power of Water. And from South America, Ma-Ti, with the power of Heart. When the five powers combine, they summon Earth's greatest champion, Captain Planet!

^lasers and lightenings, yes :)

markd13: it's not too expensive, just like investing in any other sport. the boats, if you look around, aren't too expensive...but maintaining them can be, and storage. depends on where you live and parts and such. but basic training isn't hard to get. I learned from my grandfather on Cape Cod then just acquired more stuff as I grew up. I race now, still as a youngin cause at my boat club we usually just have races for the class of boat or occasionally for age groups. So mostly people of all ages, but mos def lots of people around my age. it's nice.

i used to have a sunfish we sailed it to the middle of my lake and put a shitload of fireworks in it jumped into my friends boat and let it burn like a fucker and that was the end of it

kbus124: so i see a movie is more important then me...i can handle that

nPublicEnemy900: not the whole movie just iannick b

haha, yah, we brought our sunfish out to the middle of the lake, dropped a HUGE rock through the deck, put a bunch of rocks in the hull and watched it sink. then something big smashed into the bottom of our boat and we were like what the fuck. it turned out that when the sunfish hit the bottom all the rocks rolled out of the hull, and since there was still styrafoam in it it jsut went right back to the surface.

so for the next few hours i had alot of fun with an axe tearing open the deck. finally we actually got the stupid thing to sink about 100ft off the shore, so it was only like 35-40ft down so we can still swin down and see it
