Sailing

anyone here sail? I have been managing to take my laser out almost every day this summer and I am in the process of re-rigging it...

anyway sailing is the shit, I got my boat ('84) for a grand last summer and it is so choice. if you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

yeah i sail quite a bit. i bought a 1974 laser a couple years ago and love the thing. we just got a second trailer this year so now im able to bring it around to different places whenever i want.

i love how you used the ferris buellers day ff line- yeah i do like sailing- mayb joining sea scouts

So we pick up this laser for 200 fully rigged right. The catch is that it sank in a storm. No biggie, we will just empty the sand and hope it drys out. We prop this thing up in our backyard, pry the deck from the hull along the transome and start beating on the bastard untill we get all the sand and shit out. Lil epoxy here and there and we think we are good to go. Get it out on the lake and she sails pretty fine for a salvage project when, CRACK, the maststep rips out of the deck and I have to be towed in by some drunk fisherman. Lasers rule! We have two and my dad just bought a 2006 but has yet to pick it up. Sucks that Im in school and have no time to sail and there is still no snow.

Im a sailing instructor. I kinda hate it though just because all the kids make it so stressful. Its a hard job.

SHOOP DA WHOOP!

IMMUH CHARGIN' MAH LAZERRRR.

Nah I can't say I've heard of a laser? What is it a sunfish clone? When I was a kid back on staten island I had an Alura 32 and an old bermuda rigged tub sail-dinghy I found. Great Kills Yacht Club represent!

what do you mean what model? isnt laser like a one class design or somthing like that? i thought there was just a laser and then laser radial for lighter people

nope, it's a one-design boat that's used for racing.

I sail. awwwesome.

almost got put off when i was real young tho... was out sailing in stormy conditions, capsized, daggerboard hits me on the forehead as a friend tries to right the boat...get knocked out, massive gash on my head. if my bro hadn't been there i would have drowned...

my parents used to have like an 18 footer and they used to take us out for rides when i was like one or two they used to put me in my car seat and tie me to the mast. which was really a bad idea if you ask me. if that thing would have capsized i would have died for sure.

I am glad someone got the reference.

Anyway, I sail a full rig... I sorta want to try the radial but whatever, I weigh something like 175 so I can hold the full rig down fairly well.

For those of you that don't know what the laser is, it's a boat that can present you with some of the gnarliest sailing experiences possible. Watch this video:

I don't really have much experience sailing bigger stuff... I know nobody who owns a sailboat and my habit is funded entirely by my spare cash, so i am sort of limited in my options. I was thinking of upgrading this summer to a little sleeper sailboat, but the moorage is too expensive. I might buy a hobie 16 at some point, but the laser is just great for now... sailing it on windy days is crazy (yesterday I was keeping pace with people tubing behind speedboats) and it's a decent workout too. Anyway, I just spent $500 on a new sail and modern rigging so I am going to have to get some use out of it before I upgrade.

I looove sailing. I cant wait to get my boat back on the water. My dad has a 13' laser-ish kinda boat that he lets me take out all the time. It has some subtle differences from a laser though..

I used to go to sailing camp with dick-juice for a couple years, ive always liked sailing except i dont live near any big lakes or the ocean. it sucks.

i sail with a friend in his 29er every once in a while, and every weekend in an albacore up at my cottage. sailing blazed is soo fun. but can be scary

49ers are NUTS. My dad's coworker has one and we went out on the San Francisco bay in that thing last year. Wind picked up in the afternoon and that sucker took off. I swear, I thought the rigging was going to tear off the boat - the mast was shaking so bad...

aussie 18 are the shit so fast. Yeah i sail a lot every day actually from june to october late december for my racing team lasers its so sick. Lasers are actually the most fun single handed boats so fast.

I coach 420s and race Lasers, just getting into them though, I think I might do Buzzard's Bay this year. I'm also planning on sailing for Bates in the fall.

arrgghh...I sail a hobie 14 turbo on my own, a 16 with a friend, and I race as a trimmer on a J27 every wednesday :)

Just today a race got cancelled cuz it was blowing 20+ knots with heavy rain and a LOT of lightning.

Anyone got a hobie 14 jib laying around?

I took the summer off from sailing this year, I've been racing Lasers/Radials the last two summers though. It's really fun to travel with a team, a coach and live the ''sail bum'' lifestyle but can also get pretty tiresome when you just want to keep it real. Beetween the getting up at 7 all summer, being away from home alot, always on the go, playing soccer, physical demand, going back to school I decided to take a break. Playing soccer instead and have yet to get the Laser out due to injuries but I may be going to CORK. If anyone else is going holla cause I wouldn't mind splitting on a room or crashing at someones place in Kingston.

p.s. check out the sailing cult, it's in need of life.

my brother(outcold720) is pretty big in to sailing. Well i'm not is fun but i'm not like my brother.

i'll sail one with you anytime :p

49er's look super fun.

i've recently become intersted in windsurfing. you feel so much closer to the water, you have to be much more aware of the wind or else you'll be in the water. I was sailing at about the same speed as my friend in his laser the other day in about 10 knot winds

i have 2 lasers and a opti and i used to sail 420s at sailing camp

its fun to do as a pass time but i wouldnt want to be a sail bum

Is anyone doing 420 nationals, its next weekend, im goin since its on my home lake, were hopin to do well

Im a sailing instructor too, all my earnings from the summer i spilt 30/70 with maintaining this beast below and skiing....
