Safety bar PLEASE!!!

Whoa, sorry, I think my ears are bleeding. For all of you who ride "that place", you know what I'm talking about.
Personally, I like the freedom of the bar up, and having an un-obstructed view of the mountain. I don't use it to rest my arms on either. It's my choice and there aren't any written rules saying I need to put it down.
For those who don't know, Grouse has gone nuts trying to enforce the safety bar. They yell repeatedly now when you don't put it down. I mean they really scream. Friday the lifties at the bottom called the top and the top lifties threatened to get ski patrol to deal with us if we didn't put the bar down the next time. They screamed at my buddy and I on the baby chair, the one that goes maximum of 15 feet above the ground and slow as a slug. I was nearly above the road on Olympic and I heard some crazy liftie yelling about the bar.
This is kinda like the final straw for that place. Too many dumb issues, shitty vibes from everyone but the skiers, and greedy management.
Baker doesn't even have safety bars on their chairs, and they're an american resort. I'll see you peeps at Seymour next season.

Agreed, there are a few liftites that dont care, but most of them are shitty. Most of the time I am there I dont even use the lift, I end up hiking all day due to the fact taht it takes almost an hour to get up the lift most days. Its bullshit

Just another day at The Beast That Shall Not Be Named. I don't know why people keep giving it second, third, and eight hundred thirty first chances, because they'll keep proving what a shithole of a resort they want to run. Even Cypress gives more of a shit about you.

Unfortunately everyone has ADD and will keep going back like an abused wife, deluding themselves that things will change. Yeah that's right... they hurt you because they love you. Just keep telling yourself that.

Fuck Grouse.
Its for little boisssss and pre teens. They have fucked up soo many times this year i don't know why so many people (on here) still bring them your business. They are a bigger tourist resort than whistler, it is lame. Ski some place where you get respect for the sport you love.
Sorry for the harsh words, but i am really sick of everyone always bitching about Grouse, we know it sucks.....so just don't go there.

Not even a close comparison. W/B is a money making machine and often make decisions that put that goal well ahead of providing good terrain (see the last few projects embarked on), but they still make plenty of room for skiing.

The reason for a lot of people is convenience. Any weekday after school I can go home, grab my ski gear, walk 2 blocks to the bus stop, take a 15 minute bus ride and I'm at the gondola. Also Y2Play is cheap as shit so that helps too.

So you're basically too lazy to give a shit. That's cool I guess.

No I'm just kidding, you can do what you want. I would like to see people put their money towards concerns that are good for the ski community, rather than feeding what hurts it. Even if it's an extra 15 minutes to bus to parkgate and shuttle up, it's worth it in my view.

Why not just put the bar down?

I like Grouse. This is the first season I've consistently skied a local mountain in a few years and I have to say, I really like Grouse. I've skied Seymour and Cypress quite a bit, and each are good in their own regards, but neither have the terrain or terrain park to match Grouse. Granted Cypress has more terrain to choose from and Seymour has backcountry access, as far as inbounds terrain goes Grouse has some pretty fun lines.

This season Grouse has stepped up their park beyond anything I have seen on the North Shore. The features are large, well maintained, and there are alot of options. A 4 jump line in Vancouver...very sick. More snow and more time will only make the park better this season.

well you have your reasons and other people have their own as well, why would someone spend the extra time and money to ski somewhere when they have already got what they wanted and it makes more sense for them geographically speaking? either option works because in the end everyone will ski, its just a matter of which one someone picks, so i find it tough to sway someone's opinion... if it works, don't fix it, in basic forms (the main goal is just going skiing) it works, so don't fix it. thats why you will see lots of people at Grouse because of the cheap pass and easy access. even if some people feel it hurts the vancouver ski scene..

I see it the same way a lot of people in the states see shopping at Wal Mart. They may have it, and it may be cheaper, but... it's fucking Wal Mart. You just can't feel good about giving them money. I'm not going to debate the actual physical or economically based merits of the mountains (location, price, chairs, terrain). While I think The Beast That Shall Not Be Named places poorly relative to Seymour or Cypress in all of those categories, your view may vary. What I am trying to say is, I would love to see people care enough about who they're giving money to to make that just as if not more important that those physical merits. But if it doesn't matter to you, that is your call.

63! from friday morning to sunday night!

but yea... grouse kinda kicks ass right now, there are so many shredders and the parks have such a good vibe. so what the liftys are annoying as fuck its fun to mess with them

Here here!
But it sounds like we are heavily on the loosing end of the Grouse is an evil piece of shit argument.

woah thanks for reminding me kevin! i'll have my N next season also, hello cypress and seymour, good bye grouse!

Really? I never check any of the fine print, so I guessI've just ignorantly been under the impression that it was my choice... Haha, oh well. They don't make it obvious until they scream at you though, like no signs that say put the bar down or your pass will be taken. Same with the backcountry. It's almost like they want people to break their rules ignorantly or unknowingly.

Every time you get on the tram they "direct your attention to the waiver of liability on the back of your ticket..."

Its all good man, some of the lifties are super chill and just have to yell because its their job. Dont sweat it.
