S/Pro vs S/Max

I've been looking for a new boot and the S/Pro's were great after a season of rentals, I was wondering if the S/Max's are really that much different from them. I remember reading somewhere a while back that S/Pro's are just newer S/Max's and the S/Max's are narrower, though I plan on getting them heat molded anyway so it doesn't really matter. Are there any other notable or important differences I should know? Thanks in advance

Just because a shell is heat moldable doesn’t mean that “it doesn’t matter”. Shells can expand but if you take boot A that has a last of 97mm and boot B that has a last of 99mm, and you need to stretch both to 100mm, they will still feel very different. The toe box, the ankle pocket, the way that the lower shell is shaped pre- and post-mold will all affect that way the both boots fit. If you liked the SMax and know that it fits, and you like how it skis, don’t buy the SPro just because. Buy the SMax or go to a fitter and see what else fits.

What the other guys said. I also have an s pro, and the upcoming s pro has a HV made for higher arches, the smax doesn’t have this. It’s a very comfortable boot, stiff enough for hard charging 180lb 6’1 skier, it’s 100mm so it’s a little wider than the smax 98mm, and the spro can be expanded up to 104 or 106, not sure about the max, boot boards are thick enough to grind for extra instep or arch clearance.

appreciate the feedback. I rented s pro HV 120's and the non HV model this season and they were great, really comfortable and stiff and a really quality boot in general, they're one of the better-looking boots too which is a bonus. I figured I'd make this particular thread because I know s pros work for me and I really like them, but the ones I've been looking at are a size bigger than my actual size, whereas there's an s max that's actually in my size. Knowing that s pros work eliminates the concern of the boot not being right for me, but I'm still growing so there's no guarantee my foot will grow into a 26.5 in the next 7ish months before ski season if that makes sense.

Roger that good luck with your choice, I def wouldn’t buy too big you lose a lot of skier input with a loose boot, fwiw, my feet stopped growing at 16 even tho I gained a lil height up to 18. Buying local is best for boots, you get free bootfitting vs $100/hr when you buy boots, you can try

evo.com

skis.com

skiessentials.com

powder7.com

corbetts.com

rei.com

theres also backcountry.com but I have not heard good things and never used them, maybe one of them has your exact size or what your looking for.

Go to a store and try both boots on. The S Max is the only boot I have ever found that properly fits my foot since it is super low volume and has a very low instep. Great boot for low volume feet, only thing I would recommend is putting in some kind of a cushion on the shins since there's always too much room in the lower boot for my shins.

Lucky u, kinda I guess, my s pros were like vices before mods, and the max gotta be more narrow since the last is, luckily my feet have conformed to the boot.
